Filling 30lb propane tank.

My HiLo has two 30pound propane tanks. We live near an Indian reservation. Just filled one 30lb tank for $12.50. Love my tax free fill up.

A 20 lb propane tank holds 20 lbs or 4.7 gallons of propane.

Exchange tanks have 15 lbs or 3.6 gallons of propane in them. It says that right on the bin they are stored in.

So you get a cheap exchange that lasts less time or you spend a bit more, maybe, and get more time out of it.

You also want to watch the places offering cheap refills. If they are weighting the tank, they may be filling to 15 lbs too. If the bleed valve isn't spitting liquid gas, its not full.

It was $2.69 per gallon at the local Tractor Supply in western Louisiana according the sign in their parking lot yesterday. I paid $2.80 from a local propane supplier about 2 weeks ago.

I give them an ETA and update it 5 minutes out so they can open the chain length gate and be ready for me.
Only once in the last 2 years have we come across a TSC that didn't have the right fitting and a long enough hose.

X2! Tractor Supply is easily cheaper...

I just checked at a Tractor Suppy. I'll be darn they sell propane [emoji106] . And not only that, they sell it for $2.69 in my area also [emoji106] [emoji106] [emoji106] .

Thanks so much for all the places to get propane. Local RV dealer sells it for $3.91 a gallon and TSC sells it for $2.69.

I have been to lots of tractor supply store and never seen the big propane area. Even the TSC I am at now has it kinda in the back to along the side of the store.

So thanks a ton, I hate getting gouged on things I buy...

I topped off a 30lb. cylinder today at Tractor Supply at $2.69 / gallon.

My other propane experience, now I do not buy much in a normal year but, shame on me, never asked ahead of time what the price was. I am sure I paid too much sometimes. Especially at the service last station where the guy seems to make up a number in his head.

Well, no more. I will ask from now on and walk away if I think it is too high.

Maybe if we all contact Gas Buddy they'll add propane to their reporting system. It sure would be nice to be able to compare prices and find propane in an unknown city.

That is over $4 / gallon. Now to be fair I did not ask upfront what it cost per gallon as there is not many places to get propane.
I needed it and was happy to be able to get it.
I never look at the price, it is what it is. Not like I'm rich but I want convenience. I just buy it wherever it's convenient

If I was a weekend camper I may shop for price, but while we're on the road for months making our way to Floride, I get it at Flying J. They are one of my overnight stops anyway.

Costco has propane and it is reasonable also. I just wish I could get my tank on my motorhome filled there.

I purchase most of our propane at Tractor Supply--easy in with best price. Price is usually in line with regular gasoline/gallon. If they are not nearby I use U-Haul--but as some indicated they are hard to get in with MH. Flying J takes too much to try and get someone out to the propane filling station.
Tractor Supply propane makes my steaks taste good--must be the mesquite smoke ingredient they use--right.
