If you have lots of spare cash and feel guilty about it, please send it to the BLM. But forcing someone to pay to set up a tent in the middle of the desert is just wrong. In a developed campground, that is different. I really just wonder where people's minds are these days.

fees to "use public land"

If you have ever visited the Outer Banks near Hatteras and wish/plan to drive on the beaches when the PLOVER is "present" - which is every summer, there are many Federal employees waiting to accept your monies. The fees pay for more employees to collect the fees - $50.00 for one week to areas now packed with visitors in a small restricted area. The BLM land is huge, but with user fees, our use of that land (which belongs to all of us) will also be reduced to what they can control. Gates, rules, hours, seasons - what else? The Golden Age Passport is the best Gov't deal out there. Will that soon be rescinded as it means nothing on the Outer Banks in N.Carolina now

If there were no campers on BLM land it would not change the cost to the keepers of the land as all of America shares that cost so if a few chose to use that land as it was intended, for enjoyment, then why should those few need to pay more when it is open to all?

It will take someone to go check to see if everyone camping has paid, he will have to have a vehicle with expenses for gas and maintenance, etc. BLM will wind up spending more than they take in on this.

No the government will seek volunteers to collect the fees and GIVE them a free campsite, therefore costing the gov't nothing. Check out the COE parks, completely run and kept clean by unpaid volunteers with a Ranger showing up on occasion

This older thread has recently been resurrected and has turned into a political debate which violates this section of our rules:

  • General discussions of politics, general government policies, weaponry, gun rights and religion are not allowed in ANY areas of iRV2. Discussions about current or pending legislation or regulations, weapons and religion that directly pertain to RVing are acceptable but will be closed or removed if they wander off topic or become disruptive.
Those posts have been removed

It's time to move on
