I have 2 Champion 2000 watt inverters which I can parallel. If I dont need the AC, I just take one to keep the batteries charged. I had an older open frame Champion which ran for years. I've always been satisfied with Champion

A little redneck engineering and you could simply add a second muffler to any generator... instant quiet.

Several YouTube videos have been done on quieting portable generators. Even very large mufflers have very little affect.

I had intended to get a Honda 3000eu. Mainly because I only want it for emergencies and when you need something in an emergency, you want the best. However, a Honda won't fit under my toneau cover. So I ended up with a Firman, 3300/3000 with electric start. Came with everything except fuel. I've used it several times for reasons other than RVing. I try and start it every couple months and let it run for and hour to keep the battery charged and the rest of it limber. I've had this one for 4 years now and it always starts and works. It's quiet and meets US Forestry noise level requirements.

I have the Champion 3100, and I wish I had a Honda. We're in a National Forest campground right now and a guy just showed me his 3000 Honda. No comparison... Much quieter.

Several years ago when we decided to get a generator, we looked at the Champion 3100 for $1k... or a Honda EU2000 for $1k (and figured we'd need two, plus the parallel kit). So we got the 3100.

The electric start has been pretty much a joke. The onboard starting battery *never* holds a charge. Guess if I had it on a battery tender between trips or during the off season, it might help.

The pull start... yeah. When it's good and warm and already has been running within the past few hours, it starts after 4-5 good pulls (and I'm not a small guy). If it's been sitting for a long while between trips... good luck. 40 or 50 pulls is more like it.

This weekend I was getting things ready for our first trip of the season - and figured I'd fire up the Champion and let it idle for a bit while I get everything else loaded. After way too many attempts to start the blasted thing, that turned into "screw this, I've had enough of this crap" and a quick trip to Sportsman's Warehouse for a Honda EU2200i.

*Literally* one pull start, every time (thus far).

Just like my old Honda snow blower and (past) Honda lawnmower. Okay, maybe two pulls on those when they were cold.

I'll probably get a Micro-Air EasyStart 364 for the TT A/C and see if I can get by with just one of the Honda's. If not, I'll happily buy a second one before I waste more time tugging and cussing at that Champion 3100.

I'm picking mine up Tuesday. I like the duel fuel capability and plan to run it on propane only.

It's like anything else. If you are only going to use it a few times a year, go cheap. If you are going to use it all the time, buy the Honda. You won't regret spending the extra money.

99% of generators that will not start is caused by not properly storing it correctly. To store, start it, wait until the engine speed stabilizes, turn off the fuel valve and let the engine stop by itself. If it does not have a fuel shut off, ADD ONE !

Hopefully you won't need that extra 900 watts !

Good idea ! Personally, I would have bought a Westinghouse iGen 2500. 2500 Peak Watts and 2200 Running Watts vs the Honda 2200W/1800W.

Just picked up the new champion 2500 watt Duel fuel generator. Pretty quiet, can run my 13.5 AC without soft start.. Only weighs 39 lbs...
Under $600.00.

Yup. Did that. Even use non-ethanol fuel as an added step. Still a miserable SOB to start.

That's what a parallel kit is for. Still way easier to lift 2 x ~45 lbs in and out of the truck, one at a time, than to heave 95 lbs in and out all at once.

It was on my list as a contender... mainly because it also has the flexibility of adding a second one in parallel, as well as dual-fuel options. I *think* the Honda is one of the few that has extended run fuel tank kits that are pressurized, not gravity-fed, but I might be wrong on that.

The extended run tank for my Honda is NOT pressurized. If you were to have it be pressurized, your genny would quit as it needs to pull in outside air to replace the fuel being pulled into the Honda by its fuel pump. Otherwise you will create a vacuum that will eventually starve out the genny. That is also why you have a vent to open on your OE honda fuel cap. i will say that i envy my buddies 4500 Westinghouse with remote start, when I'm out in the frosty morning pulling my Hondas starting rope! but it is a bit louder than my 2000i

Honda not the quietest anymore
Honda has no features like remote start
Honda has no digital display to keep track of hours for
Oil changes
Honda has been reliable but really was the only one
Honda is at least twice the price of all others

Westinghouse/ Cummins / Onan basically the same have been making generators for many years for boating

Bought a Westinghouse dual fuel 4500 for $1050 . No need for paralleling . Can run anything in the camper almost all at the same time.

You can purchase old technology or step into the 21sr century.
Oh you pay dearly for the old technology
