Renogy 100 watt portable solar

I recently purchased the Renogy 100 watt portable solar suitcase. Hopefully someone can answer some questions. I have 2 interstate 6volt deep cycle batteries. Below are the battery manufactures settings.

Bulk charging voltage 14.6
Absorption charging voltage - 15.3
Float charging voltage - 13.4
Equalization- 15.6

The solar controller, Viewstar 1024BN only has settings for boost, float and equalization that I can see. So my questions are, is the boost mode same as absorption. Also any way to set the bulk settings.

Thanks john

hmm, your battery absorption voltage appears to be too high, to my eyes. i am expecting it to be around 14.3v or so.
have never used Viewstar 1024BN, but i guess the boost mode is similar to absorption charge. i have seen some solar controllers only have charge, float and cutoff voltages. yours has an equalizing, not bad.

John,

Absorbtion = Boost = Constant voltage

I looked it up and it looks like you may not be able to get 15.3 boost with your controller. I personally would just set it for the highest voltage (15 I think) with temp compensation.

Bulk voltage is regulated by the battery. When a battery is charging, it starts out at 12.2 or less. As the battery charges the voltage climbs up to 14.8.

At that point the charger/controller goes into absorption mode and holds 14.8 for a time.

Then it drops to float voltage.

An equalize mode should be user activated.

I think bulk/boost are pretty much the same. Some charge controllers (Solar30) only have one setting, so I wouldn't agonize too much over this.

I have the renology 100 suitcase solar panels. I use them all the time when I dry camp they have worked wonderfully for me. I never changed the settings from the way it was originally shipped. I use it on two nterstate deep cycle Batteries that came with my unit. The solar panels keep my battery topped off without any issues. Unfortunately they are in my rig and in storage otherwise I would pull the unit and get the information for you as to how my settings are set. I am going to be pulling it out in January to head to the Phoenix area if this thread is still going I will let you know what the settings are.

Be advised that the default battery type setting on both my Viewstar controllers that Renogy uses was AGM. It took time to figure out how to change to flooded.
