So I switched from 6v to LifePo4

Since putting in a residential frig in my 2004 40’ Itasca Horizon, I’ve been really struggling with power. In 2018, I put in four brand new Costco 6v golf cart batteries and they did okay for a while, got me 15-20 hours when they were brand new. But about one year later, they were only giving me about 4-6 hours.

I bit the bullet and bought four BattleBorns, and their Bluetooth system. Its pretty amazing. After 24 hours of running a residential frig, and a fan, in the mild 80 degree temps, I still had 57% battery remaining. This far exceeded my expectation. And they charge back up extremely fast.

Very spendy, but happy to have the ability to boondock again.

Glad to see you got a 'bargain', I've seen prices around $1400/battery tho. Doesn't matter to me, I'm not spending $4000 either

Maybe your reading comprehension is off and missed the word "Battleborn" and at this present time just doing a quick Google look, it seems to be $950+/-.

Why bother commenting to someone that felt they did fine upgrade when you have no intention it seems of spending money other than to make a snide remark to cost and not even near the comparable cost of installed batteries. My "bargain" price was $3,600 4.5 years ago for a 500ah for GBS batteries.

For the OP I hope your upgrade serves you well in to the future. My 500ah Lfp aren't BB but after 4.5 years of fulltime, everday use with over 550+/- combined full cycles sure beats dead lead chemistry. Enjoy the new power.

I wouldn't consider his comment snide...since this post is about converting from LA to LifePo4's. Many of us are considering these our next battery purchase, and it's great to hear real life performance reports. Yes, the cost is a real factor, making it an investment rather than a normal maintenance item. One can easily spend $6k converting an older unit to four Battleborns, complete with Victron, new inverter/converter, Bluetooth and solar upgrades....I mean you wanna do it right, right?
Price is something that is a real concern for many, and I, for one, am glad Itinerant1 brought it up.

I started with four 100 amp-hour BattleBorn batteries 2 years ago. I added 3 more this summer when I realized I had the room by setting them up side to side verses lengthwise. I am using the added amp hours to extend the number of hours I can run my air conditioner after sunset.

For high current applications the LiFePO4 batteries can't be beat.

OP "upgraded" from 4 6v LA to 4 12v LiFePO4 so was the vast improvement from being LiFePO4 or from the 6v to 12v increase?

I know I will probably be told both, but how would it have looked it they went to 4 12v LA batts?

Not a 6 to 12 volt increase. 6 volt batteries are probably in a series configuration giving you 12 volts. You need to look at the usable amp hours in each system. Two 6 volt 200 a/h batteries in series is still 200 a/h at 12 volts if two sets of series 6 volt, [12 volt] batteries in parallel, would be 400 a/h total and to most, 200 usable [50% discharge] Four battleborn's would be 400 a/h with 400 usable.

I bought 8 - 3.2 cells from a china source for about $1100 including freight. Add some for the BMS and box and I am just under $1500 for 560ah worth of batteries, each cell is 280ah. Here are some pictures of the batteries as I put them in a Battery box and install them in the RV.

Wow very nice, I run 50ah LiFe’s for the trolling motor in my fishing kayak and I see a few people making up custom packs for their boats. The difference for me has been amazing, now to put them in the motorhome [emoji12].

Very nice! Price is very reasonable for folks not minding to diy. That blows the expensiveness of lfp out the window.
