Eastern States: You can't stop overnight in the rest areas in AL, FL, IL, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MS, MO, NJ, NC, PA, SC, TN, VT, VA, WV.

A couple of the remaining Eastern states allow emergency overnight parking only or allow overnight parking at specific places. A Few didn't mention anything about it.

The above info came out of my 12th edition (2005) Wright's Free Campgrounds Eastern Edition.

As far as the truckstops being noisy... anyone try using those earplugs that are made out of foam similar to "memory foam"? Knocks David's snoring (& the TV) down to where I can sleep yet still hear the alarm clock go off in the AM.

I found the list of rest areas you can't stop overnight interesting! We stayed overnight last year at the Fl.Welcome Center(isn't this the same as a rest area?).Tom went over and talked to the security guard on duty to make it was ok,she said she would keep an eye out and would call attention to us and other rv's that joined us for the night to the one coming on duty after her.We had a great nights sleep, tucked in between another rv and a big truck, ate a hearty breakfast and headed on down to our destination.
Oh,we also got an ok just last month to stay at an Al. rest area, but too many noisy trucks for us so found a great $15 a night campground.

It is against FL law to stay longer than 4 hours. The paid private security guards OK does not circumvent the law. If a trucker or another RVer pulls in at 3AM for a 3 or 4 hour break/nap and all the spots are taken by those stay all night he is out of luck.

I really don't think as large as the Fl. welcome center is that would ever be a problem though!

We have made the same run from Ontario canada across the "Bluewater" at Sarnia and head on down. We have used KOA'S that have been open right into Dec. for the nightly stops and when a hose freezes we simply throw it in the bike barn and use another one. I push the anti-freeze out the first night and by the next day am well below the nightly freeze line. Like others here, if "boondocking" is an absolute, I would limit it to the F/J's and Casino's.
