Texas COE parks with no hookups?

Are there any Army Corps of Engineers parks in Texas that have campsites with no hookups? I know that the Kimball Bend Park didn't have hookups for quite a while, and so the overnights there were free (did it for a weekend in a popup - 8 maybe 9 years ago). Now they have hookups.

Does anyone know of any remaining COE parks where we can boondock? I think that our motor home is set up for a weekend run, I just want to try it out!

Thanks.

Texas is a big place, the east and west sides are closer to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans than they are to each other. Perhaps if you were to narrow it down a bit someone would be better able to suggest a location.

OK, Central Texas?

But, I am also interested in finding any of those COE parks with no hookups anywhere in the state, or maybe close to the border in Oklahoma, Louisiana or New Mexico.

Ask if the park you want to go has a dry camp section. May have a reduced rate if they do.

New Mexico and Arizona boondocking

Just google Corps of Engineer Campgrounds

https://www.recreation.gov/campgroun...agencyID=70902

There are pages of COE campgrounds at this site. You might also consider Bureau of Reclaimation CGs as well

https://www.recreation.gov/campgroun...&agencyID=7090

We stayed a Haystack BLM CG in Oregon a few years ago and it was quiet and beautiful

Thanks for the ideas.

I wish that RV Park Reviews had a dedicated section for boondocking. That would be interesting, as well as entertaining.

I know at least one of the COE sites on Lake Sam Rayburn has both electric /water and dry rv sites, and that the published rates for the dry sites are $100 per week vs just under $200 for the electric and water sites.

COE do accept the golden pass. The only thing is alot of them are run by concessions and they do not accept them. They will ask for your pass number when making a reservation if they are run by the COE. 50 percent off the rate.

Lake Meredith, near Fritch(between Dumas and Amarillo)is free dry camping. Nice campground that we've used a couple of times. Never very crowded when we've been there.

Why are you interested in only COE? You are limiting yourself.

You do not have to use the hook ups. Consider Texas state parks and National parks.

The COE parks with no utilities are free (no cost to user) - maybe a better term would be "taxpayer funded". They usually have a fairly level pad and access to fill your freshwater tank. That is the way that it was at Mitchell Bend Park until they added water and electric. It was great for a quick one nighter away from the house.

I haven't excluded Texas State Parks - I am an annual pass holder. It's just that sometimes I like to get away and have nothing more to pay for than fuel. It is even more desirable now that we've finally reached our end goal and purchased a Class A motor home. Boondocking and traveling has never been easier! The COE parks with no hookups are a great resource if you can find one along your travel path. Since they are made for boondocking, you are less likely to have any issues like some stays in parking lots and rest areas.
