Trip report: The Tioga Area of Yosemite

Not the most ambitious trip we've ever taken -- but better than staying home. Here is our blog post -- lots of photos:

Look, Mom, We're Camping!: Tioga During the Pandemic: June 2020

And in case you are wondering, of course we "social distanced" like traveling hermits. We boondocked and did not go into any stores, so it was essentially like staying home (except for gas stations).

Those are some great pictures and it looked like you had a wonderful time. Tracy and I are jealous and so looking forward to journeys like yours in a year or so. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately, the fires near the coast have produced a lot of smoke in the Eastern Sierra this summer, so we have been forced to wait at home instead of going back to the high country as we had hoped to do.

We'll be hitting that region for two weeks later this month into October. Crossing over 88 Carson Pass and working our way down to Lone Pine. Probably going to hit half a dozen or so Forest Service dispersed or BLM campgrounds. Should be a lot less crowded by then I'm hoping.

A beautiful time of year! It'll get chilly at night (which is a good thing) -- bring some warm clothes, especially if you plan to sit outside at night and look at the stars. Hopefully, the smoke will have died down by then . . . .

There is a fire in Coleville/Walker right now so its best to avoid that area.

Beautiful pictures. Driving through the state not so much. Everyone needs to find a place like this close to them to get out safely. From Houston we did the same but in Colorado. A lot closer. Safe travels

Enjoy the journey

Thanks for the heads up. We won't we traveling through until the 20th, hopefully it will be clear. Just noticed they lifted the evac order but i'll keep an eye on it. We were planning on staying at Obsidian for a couple of days, may have to alter that.

There is a really nice Forest Service Campground in the Walker River Canyon just south of Walker called Bootleg. About 10 miles south of Walker on US 395. Has paved roads, flush toilets and water faucets throughout the campground. It's usually very quiet and not crowded. Many sites can handle a 35 foot 5th. wheel.
