VA Walmart challenges
2:38AM; walmart number three of the night; just finally dozed off and some numbskull drove thru the RVs honking and screaming "wake up old people!"
first walmart off I-81 near Radford had a big we don't want RV or trucker business sign
second one in radford was quiet until shift change when the workers decided right behind our rig was a good spot for a loud beer and vaping party. when i heard one of them say something about @@@@ing RVs, we decided to leave
now we're in Christiansburg which si far is decidedly not.
VA used to be for Lovers, perhaps a new catch phrase is due?

Maybe you should write a letter to Walmart corporate and tell them their free parking sites need some guards and to remind their employees to tiptoe around the RV's.
And scold them about the audacity of them to even post a sign objecting to trucks and RV's!

Walmart
Assuming that the opportunity presents itself, I'd recommend stopping at one of the interstate rest stops. - Choose one that has a lot of trucks rather than an empty one. Much safer and usually the truckers are a lot more friendly than the folks you'd find in a parking lot such as a Walmart.
We've been doing that for many, many years if all we want to do is stop for a few hours to nap, snack, walk the dogs, stretch our legs, etc. - Never had a problem !!

Yup, exactly why I won't Wally Dock.
BTW, there's nice rest areas right at Radford on I-81 and a Cracker Barrel at Christiansburg.

For some strange reason, I find this humorous.

There is a great Walmart at Stanton. Big lot & very quite. Stayed at many Walmarts around the country & never had a bad experience.

You really won the trifecta! Well, after a good night's sleep it will make a good story to entertain the neighbors with.

Wal-Mart sleeping routine: Generator on, Fan on high, earplugs in - sleep away...
We also use the AllStays smartphone app which will tell you which Walmarts to avoid as they don't allow overnight parking. You can also provide feedback to the app so that future travelers know what Walmarts may be noisy.

You know I don't quite understand the staying at Wal-Mart. We all drive expensive toys and want to feel safe. I think most can afford to stay at a campground. Now if you are just wanting a few hours of sleep I can understand that. Rather see you stop than fall asleep at the wheel. But all of us old guessers can afford to stay at a campground. We can't take it with us.

We stay at Walmart pretty much every night while traveling from Point A to Point B. It's easy, convenient, has everything we need (so we can restock the fridge, rent a movie from Red Box, pick up a new sewer hose, whatever), and it's free.
What do I need a campground for when we'll be leaving first thing in the morning? Campgrounds are usually further out of the way, you have to go through the hassle of checking in and filling out paperwork, unhook the toad to back into the site, then re-attach the toad in the morning when we leave. And I have to part with a wad of cash for it all.
Sometimes we choose to pay for a campground and stop early in the day and enjoy what the campground has to offer. But just for a place to sleep, it's not worth the expense in extra time and money.
Now if we were retired and only traveling a couple of hours at a time, we would do it differently. But we don't have unlimited time so when we're traveling we need to cover miles. That means putting in a full day going down the road.
I'd love to take 6 months to do the trip we just did in 6 weeks, but that's not where we are in life right now.

Geeesh, don't think some of the snarky responses are warranted here. OP was just venting in what I interpreted as a humorous way.
Walmart Corporate invites and encourages RVers to stay the night in a responsible way.. I've taken them up on that many times and have never had a problem that scared me off. I prefer a Campground, but there are some routes around the US where those are few and far between, where there may be a Walmart at nearly every exit.

I drive a 18 year old motorhome and can't afford campgrounds. I need the money for gas.
