Fuel Tank Strap Torque Specs

Just replaced the fuel pump in my 75 gallon 2002 W-22. Anyone know the torque specs for the fuel tank straps? I did a "reverse torque" measurement when removing them and came up with 50 lbs. Seems like a good ballpark number based on previous tanks I have dropped over the years, but wanted to see if anyone has the factory spec before I drive it down the road.

I was hoping to avoid the cost of a service manual download at this time (although I should probably have one on-hand anyway).

Any help is appreciated...

I just looked thru the Workhorse manuals I have and I can’t find anything on fuel tank mounting torque values.

When I pulled the tank on our previous ‘91 P30 coach, I just retightened the straps until they felt snug - alternating back and forth between straps and making sure they weren’t in a bind.
Our current ‘02 coach has had the tank removed and replaced by the PO. Have not had to do anything to it, yet.

FWIW - make sure you get the fuel fill and vent hoses routed properly and strapped to the chassis. PO or whoever did his tank removal didn’t and it made filling the tank with gas a pain because the vent hose wouldn’t vent.. simple 3 minute fix and all is good now.

I believe "most" TQ specs are tied to the bolt grade and diameter, and not to any specific application. There are charts available that show the TQ values that should not be exceeded to prevent over-stressing. Markings on the bolt head are there to identify the bolt's grade, and the diagnostic. should be readily determine.

For the tank strap application, just be sure to use a lock washer, or self-locking nuts.

Thank you both for the advice. I have a friend who is a full-time mechanic, and he agreed with MrMark52...Just make sure they are snug. He said he has probably dropped 50 tanks over the years and has never torqued the strap bolts.

Thanks again,
JMX

Thinking about EdGray’s comment - I don’t remember if the Workhorse tanks are strapped in or have a bolt flange welded at the top.
Ed made me think it might be a bolt flange when he mentioned “be sure there is a lock washer” - for me a lock washer is useless on a strap - but an elastic stop nut (not a regular lock nut) is a good idea! Regardless if strap or flange!

Don’t want to risk losing that gas tank going 75 mph. 😂 (doh!).
