Besides all the Veterans, we should also give thanks to all the civil servants that supported the military. I know one that did over 30 trips into Vietnam, and Thailand, from 1961, to 65, setting up the antenna fields for listening & navigation stations. He was issued fatigues, and a 1911A1, and a military ID card. Was shot at several times, and hit once. Then spent 35 years in Civil service for the Navy. But, is not a Veteran.

There was also many civil servants and civilian contract workers in Iraq, and Afghanistan. That get no recognition for their service.

After most had passed away, the Government did recognize the merchant Marines, and civilian pilots that ferried aircraft into the combat zones for WWII.

As far as I am concerned, anyone who was in a combat zone, and was working for and paid by our government, is a combat veteran.

Having served in the Gulf war, and spent over 22 years between active, and reserve duty. I can say there is a difference between being in a combat zone, and going in and out, over and over again. Living in a combat zone, you get to know what to expect, and can just put your mind into what you are doing. Going in and out for 4 or 5 weeks at a time, not knowing much about where you are going, who you can trust, or go to when needed, time after time, takes guts. We all saw them at the base, installing security, commo, water, what ever systems, but did not even say hi, or thanks.

They are all Veterans in my book.

Most CS employees wouldn't have went into the combat zones for the same pay the GI's were gettin...sorry
They always had the option to say...NO Thanks...Gi's don't !

I doubt anyone went to Vietnam, for the pay. Even today, I bet most of the governments civil, and electronic engineers, do what they do in the combat zones out of dedication and concern for their fellow civilized humans, over pay. The majority of all Federal civil servants can easily get more money working elsewhere.

Your jokin right Or do you mean fortune 500 companies. All CS positions pay more for OS locations and a hazard duty location is better yet. Guess you didn't talk to the ones I did. Been there done that,

You are right, it is all a big joke. I forgot that there is waiting lists for Engineers, Lawyers, and Doctors and such, wanting to work for the man.

Would you mind listing the poor people that hire anyone?

You are truly confused

I went to VN in 1961 I was an E4 in the USAF yet went in with a passport the only record I have is my entry visa stamped in the passport. I have a medal for being in a combat zone when no other medal exist but my DD214 does not show I was in VN.

Supported T-28's, T-6 Texans modified to carry napalm, small bombs and 50 cal guns in 1962 B26's painted black showed up. No USAF insignia on any aircraft or vehicles the runway was PSP (corrugated metal) very slick when wet.
Bien Hoa was an interesting place we lived in tents had outdoor showers and mess kits were same as boot camp washed them in garbage cans with burners under them start at one end and slouch the mess kit around, move to the next one.

Definitely lots of confusion here. I never said there were poor people hiring anyone for anything. I was just trying to get people to also think about the service and dedication to the military civil servants, And point out that many also served in combat zones. But apparently they only ever did it for the money. I for one, am glad those overpaid civil servants went in, and set up the radio, navigation, and wireless telephone systems in country. Even if they only did it for the money.

I for one do not like the idea of starting another in ranks class action warfare.
