Dependent ID cards

Now I know all of you "retired" folks have an ID card that technically doesn't expire. But for your spouse, we have to keep getting one.

Have any of you had trouble renewing your spouse's card due to covid-19?

We live quite some distance from a military base, so trying to get an appointment has been difficult. Phones are not answered, the online appointment maker has nothing available.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

As I remember my wife got a permanent card when she turned 65. Bad news is I think I read where all retirees will have to get the new cards they are going to issue to all, as soon as they get the capability.

Unless they've changed the rules since 2019, that's not correct. My wife is over 65, and got a D/W ID card in Jan 2019, with an expiration date of Jan 2024

Ive heard that if the retired service member dies before spouse reaches 75 she loses TFL coverage.
Anyone up on this ?

We were told that DFAS extended dependent ID card expiration dates until either June or July, 2021. This was done automatically in the system.

Not true.....spouse keeps coverage as long as she/he doesn't remarry.

My wife had her id renewed about 6 months ago and was told that when she turns 75 her card would be indefinite.

You do not need to travel to an AD military base, your states National Guard has an ID card section(at HQ detachments), but you must call to get the locations. They are connected with DEERS, which means you can stop in and change your current information in addition to ID cards.
Dependents only fall under the age 75 for INDEF on ID cards.

What new cards? About 8 years ago we were re-issued retired ID cards that eliminated the SSN.
Cancel that, found the information: https://www.cac.mil/Next-Generation-...vices-ID-Card/

I've been known to strip a few gears too.
We all must work together to stay on top of what benefits are available for Veterans, they were earned with that blank check.
