F4C

Flew 207 combat missions in VietNam in the F4C out of CamRahn Bay in 1966. It just proves that if you add enough power, you can get a barn door to fly ! Always made it back though.

Ah...yes. Wonderful sharing of stories and experiences-
Thank you all for your sacrifice and service.
My USN AMS DH's first love (yes, you read correctly!) is and always will be the EC130Q Hercules. He was attached to FAIRECONRON E VQ-3, Agana, Guam '71-'73, the Iroman squadron. In the picture below is one of the original Herkys and you can see the communications drogue in the area of the aft ramp See: https://www.public.navy.mil/AIRFOR/V...D-HISTORY.aspx and

OLD TACAMO
Then, it was VA-147 Argonauts, NAS Lemoore. See: https://www.seaforces.org/usnair/VA/...uadron-147.htm. There, he loved the A-7. But, the real show stopper for us both was the B-25 Mitchell WWII bomber who came and put on show for us at the Hanford, CA Airshow, 1976. Unbelievable- beautiful. We both flew Cessnas for a few years but the big boys are the real aircraft-

Thank you, all, for this wonderful walk down memory lane.

Stationed at Kadena AB flying F-4C Wild Weasels in the mid 70's after flying AC-130's in Thailand. We had a Division CC BG, who had been buddies with the Midway Task Force Admiral while both were at the "puzzle palace". They set up a program where several of us landlubbers got to fly out to the Midway on the COD. Spent 3 days /2 nights onboard buddied up with a couple of Navy flyers. Had a great time; learned a lot about carrier ops. Found out that subs and flattops were 'boats', not ships!

This is my F-4E #74-1041 at Soesterberg AB, the Netherlands.
The last block of F-4s the USAF bought and most likely is sitting on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.
Shot down by an F15 or F16 out of Tyndall.

Hooligan,,,,There is no place on earth like Pensacola, The home of the “Best of the Best”. The Cradle of Naval Avaition,,,,and yes I live here also, and would not trade it for anywhere else in the World. Me and my family are some of the original settlers in Pensacola, my great, great grandfather was a Pirate when his ship landed downtown where Joe Patti’s is today.....

Sure are a lot of squids here!!! Don't get me wrong, I have a deep respect for the aviation branch of each of the services. As a USAF air traffic controller I worked most of the aircraft types at one time or another from 1970 to the late 1990s.

While USAF trains its pilots to fly by the book, the sailors seemed to have a bit more "latitude" when operating their winged rockets. Always fun to watch - except when they barged into already very busy airspace.

I also learned from a prior Navy controller how to distinguish real sea stories from the embellished ones. The latter always begins with, "This is no sh_t…"

Bravo Zulu!!!
