I hope you weren't one of the guys hanging from the overhead. I would pay just about anything NOT to HAVE to ride in a bunk like that coming back from Vietnam even on a slow round-engined many-motor. At least when I had to come home on emergency leave I got to ride in a C-141 about 2/3 full of wounded guys in bunks and 1/3 guys in seats. Thank you USAF.[emoji2]

I was. the hanging cots were triple deckers, and I was in the middle. I wanted to ride in a seat, but was told to "shut up and lay down. At least, I was able to get far enough up to snap a few photos.

When near Seattle check out the Museum of Flight. This is our B52G at The Viet Nam Memorial Park Completed last year. The 727 is serial # 0001 the first 727 built in 1963-64. We restored it to flight status at the Restoration shop in Everett and Flew it down to Seattle. I have aprox. 3,000 Volunteer hours in that one.

I can't remember exactly how long the flight took, but we didn't depart from Nam, and I don't think we ever got to the west coast.
i had been moved to a hospital in Japan, and we departed from an AFB there. We refueled at an AFB in Alaska, and then at Scott AFB in central Illinois. The final destination was Glenview Naval Air Station, which no longer exists. That was a fairly short drive to the hospital at Great Lakes Naval Base, which was close enough to home that my girl friend (now my wife) could come to visit.
Once i was discharged from the hospital, I went to Ft. Sheridan, to process out of the army. What's left of Ft. Sheridan is now a county forest preserve.

When I came home we left our base on a C-123 Provider to Saigon and then a 707 to Japan and another 707 to SF. For the record, that's a OD Beret not a Green Beret. At the time of this pic I was an advisor with the SVN Rangers in 1965. The 123 is at Castle Air Museum in central California.

When I was in the AF anytime an Airvac was on final the tower reported an inbound emergency.
We rolled the crash trucks and tower would radio XX soles on board XX ambulatory and XX litters.
When I went to Korea I traveled from SF to Alaska then the northern route to Japan on a USAF C54 came back over the Atlantic on a Navy R7V-1. I think the Northern route from Alaska was 12 to 14 hours one heck of a long flight.

I cannot wait to see this! The Blues and the Birds in their new 12 plane Super Delta formation looks Sierra Hotel![emoji41]
Can you imagine what a Bomb Burst or a Fleur de Lis would look like out of this formation?[emoji33]

I wonder when jokesters will begin calling the cooperative effort the "Bluebirds"?[emoji848]

I like "Thunder Angles" more appropriate for sierra hotel aviators.

Yes it is. If they could do it in a 12 plane Line Abreast formation that would make the ultimate formation photo.
Line up and step down in a Line Abreast is easy but spacing between aircraft is a real b***h![emoji3062]
