New cam amp VA benefit
Making reservations yesterday at a NAS in East TX, we asked if we could sponsor civilians onto the base as before. She said yes.... but. Then told us about an MWR card and local program that the guests could apply for. Costs money and takes awhile.
Then she said there is another way, and asked if they were disabled vets? When I said yes, but low disability rating she asked if it was service connected. If so, and they have proof of that with their VA card or a VA letter awarding the service connected benefit, they are now eligible to access most base benefits on their own.
She then explained all they have to do is show up at any mil base and sign up with the pass and ID office usually by the main gate and get their VA card scanned into the system and they are good to go at any DOD facility.
These benefits according to her include not only fam camps but also commissary and exchange facilities.
Shocked, I called two friends of mine, both getting hearing aids from the VA, both having some previous military service with the National Guard. Both checked their VA card. One said “service connected”. one did not say service connected, but he does get a 10% monthly pmt.
I am not sure if the other one that says “service connected” gets any VA pmt or not but he does get free hearing aids.
Just wondering if anyone else has heard about this apparently new benefit?
