Vet. RVing question
We have been RVing long weekends or 2 weeks vac. for the last 7 yrs. Just purchased a used 2010 diesel and will be part timing it for half the year starting later in 2015. I was classified 50% by the VA back in the 70s from when I was in the Navy. I never thought of it until now but I believe bases around the country allow camping on their bases (where available) to retired Vets and I think disabled vets.
Anyone know how I find out if I qualify for this and what I would need to be able to take advantage of this?
Thanks

Hello, Ken.
I have visited the CG on the USAF Academy near Colorado Springs, and I was told all branches of the military were allowed to stay there. It was a really nice place, but I have not been back in over 10 years. Here is a link I have used in the past to get the info you are looking for:
U.S. Military Campgrounds and RV Parks - Peregrine Pines FamCamp
If you have a VA rep, they may be able to help you. If you do not have one, find the closest one and get to know them! Mine is a wealth of info for everything VA related.

I recommend you contact the installation directly and ask about their policy. It can vary location to location.

Also look into joining the VFW. Some of their posts have RV sites and almost all will let you use the parking lot to overnight. And, it gives you a chance to find out about local attractions and have a cold beer.

If you were rated at 50% in the 70s you should go back and get reconsidered. You are probably 100% now, by VA standards.
There are apps for cell phones that list military camp grounds like Famcamps. You can just show your VA card and they let you stay. I am over 100% and I have never been asked to show any ID at any military camp. I have to show ID to get on an active base where there are Famcamps but not at the camp itself.
