Veterans Day Announcement to all Vets - Free Natl Parks Pass

A General friend of mine forwarded this to me. Announcement to be released today. Definitely a good deal…..

On Veterans Day 2022, the National Park Service will unveil a lifetime pass providing free entrance to national parks for Veterans and their families. The Interagency Military Lifetime Pass waives entrance fees for the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and standard amenity recreation fees for the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites for current military service members and their dependents, Veterans and Gold Star Families. Thank you for your service!

The lifetime pass wasn’t available yet when I got my new annual pass a couple of months ago. We went to the National Seashore this week and I traded my annual for the lifetime there. Just need to show credentials. They told me they are not allowed to look at the DD214 though so just a heads up.

For those interested, valid forms of id for the pass include the following:

Department of Defense ID Card
Veteran Health ID (VHIC)
Veteran ID Card
Veteran’s designation on a state-issued US driver’s license or ID card

I got the same pass about 6 years ago. The disability life time pass gives you the same benifts as this new pass plus it gives you up to a 50% discount on caig fees.

I got the new veteran's pass by going online and paying the $10 online fee.

It arrived in about 10 days and comes with a hang tag for a vehicle's rearview mirror.

It's free if you go to an administrative office in person, but I figured I'd save a trip and it would't hurt to pay $10 for access to the parks for life.

I also had this pass previously for service connected. Nice benefit, much appreciated. Used it recently at Zion and Joshua Tree, and was treated very nicely by the park staff.

I really like that some states allow you to get your veteran status on your drivers license. Especially for veterans who are not retired military so they don’t have a military ID card.

I use my drivers license to show veteran status and have never had an issue with it.

I got mine last November at the Wright Brothers Museum. Just showed my vet card. And got one. I highly recommend visiting this place. Super friendly and nice place to visit.
