The OP posted originally on Dec 20, 2013. Fifty years before that date was Dec 20, 1963.

On Nov 22, 1963, Pres. John F. Kennedy was assassinated which brought shock waves throughout the world (or so it seemed.) On Dec 20 that year, which was a Friday, I was 8 years old and in the 3rd grade. Miss Gates was my teacher. Christmas was just 5 days away. Back then we didn't have Winter breaks and Spring breaks like school kids have these days. We were required to attend school on Dec 23 (Monday), but would have had the 24th off (Christmas Eve).

So, on that day in history, I was in Miss Gates class, 3rd grade, 8 years old and dreaming of getting a Kenner Girder and Panel building set, and quite frankly, couldn't care less about being in school. I remember trying to figure out the life and death issue of reality, religion, and exactly what WAS a President of the United States.

My wife was born on September 29, 1963. She would have been in diapers, somewhere in Orange County California, born on El Toro Air Force Base.

On a August 16, 1970, I was one week out of Purdue Uhiversity with a BS Degree and looking for a job. Finally got two offers - IBM for $700 a month or Shell Oil for $750. I went with Shell and ended up in Houston, Texas instead of New York.
