Back home from Vietnam, working for the FAA and certified as a Journeyman Air Traffic Controller. Best job I ever had. Retired twenty one years ago. Now I have an even better job. None!

Our time overlapped at Great Lakes.

I got there on Dec 15, 1969. Actually, on the 16th at GLTS. Spent the 15th and that night flying from Richmond, VA and spending a lot of time at O'Hare waiting for transport to Great Lakes.

To paraphrase what others had to say, " I understand what you are talking about!". There was no future where I came from but Uncle Sam changed my life with one simple letter. I now wonder how many other kids today would have a better sense of direction if the draft still existed?

Not 50 years ago but 30 years ago today. Smack dab in the middle of a battlefield. Hadn't slept in two days. Feeling happy we hadn't been juiced yet. (Chemical weapons).

50 years ago I was in 8th grade listening to my English teacher telling us his number had come up and that we should all write to a Senator and tell him that said English teacher shouldn't have to get drafted because he was a teacher. No, I didn't write. My oldest brother was serving in the Navy and had served a tour in VN.
