I don't know about "out to lunch" but there is an old Marine Safety saying in the Coast Guard that "you have to go to lunch but you don't have to return."

U. S. Army 1968-1988, 2 tours Vietnam Qui Nihon area and with 801st Main Bn 101st AB. 5 years in Germany Hanau and Frankfurt, 2.5 yrs Okinawa, 4.5 yrs Camp Zama Japan. Started out in quartermaster supply, have ordered everything from bandaids to rotorblades for AH-I Cobra Gunships. Change MOS to OOJ military club manager, in my heart I felt the troops needed a taster of adult beverages and good quality food, it was a fine job for 8 years. Even dealing with field grade officers wives and their luncheon menu was bearable. Couple years at Ft Hamilton NY, and Ft. Hood Tex along with Wm Beaumont Medical Center El Paso, Tex.

Ok all you GI type Guys and Gals... tis himself the K9piper from the USAF SPS canine section just posting to let you all know that my post before was just a bit of Branch jaw boning in the matter of fun. So I do hope I did not offend anyone. Having served in any branch shows me a person who was ready when called and did step right up to do what was asked of them. So now that I said that I , from the bottom of my heart have to say WELCOME HOME GI and thank you for your service as no matter what branch you hail from we are all for one and one for all and we will never leave anyone behind. We sure gave some but many of our brothers and sisters gave all.
Go Air Force BEAT Navy and Army!!!!

Army National Guard

Michigan Army National Guard from 1969 to 1999. Started as a 13B cannon crewman and retired as an NCOIC in Recruiting Command. Working at Lansing MEPS as a civilian contractor now and hanging it all up in Feb 2015 so I can get the MH on the road.

USAF Ret

Corrosion Control and Aircraft sheet metal

NC, AZ(X2), Turkey, CA(X2), UK, TX, and many TDY's during my entire career. And because I enlisted in early 75, they classified me as a Viet Nam Veteran, and being civil service now, I'll take that classification. It helps, but I'm 4 years from retirement again.
