My nephew enlisted in the Army, last year, to be a CH-47 mechanic. So very proud of him!
Every time I see a shithook (every several days/ sometimes with sling loads) I am amazed by the fact that they're still flying  .
They're nearly approaching the mid 50s B52s, now aged to the early 60s?

Lots of upgrades on the Hooks. During training at Mother Rucker we flew "A" models, in VN we had two versions of the "C" model. The standard C had L7 engines, the Super C had L11 engines. The latter kept exploding, so we went back the standard 7 while the Lycoming tech reps worked on the L11s.

Thanks to all who served and continue to serve
Dad: was 4F in WWII until toward the end of the war, when the US started taking in 'rejects', not sure if we were going to invade Japan or not, then he was passed and received notification the next day after enlisting that Japan had surrended and he would not go.
Brother: short term service in the 1950s USMC, then medically released
Me: Drafted, then 'boot camp' for physicians at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, then General Medical Officer, 12th EVAC hospital (smbl) then Batallion Surgeon, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry, First Infantry Division the second half of my one year all-expenses paid SE Asia 'vacation' (1968-1969). On return to the 'world', became an Army Flight Surgeon then decided against a re-up and exited to practice medicine in a small town in Oklahoma for four years then joined the Navy.
Navy service began in Navy Flight Surgeon school, Senior Medical Officer, CVT-16, USS Lexington training carrier; Officer in Charge, Branch Medical Hospital, MCAS Iwakuni, Japan; Wing Surgeon NAS Whidbey Island, with a short one-year tour on USS Constellation, CV-64; then to Medical Director and Senior Flight Surgeon, NAS Cecil Field, Florida, then NAS hospital and on to local US Navy Reserve unit to finally retire.
90% VA disabled but still working full-time, can't seem to quit
