WWII Carriers in the Great Lakes? Very Interesting Story!

I got this from a friend about 2 carriers that were stationed out or near of NAS Glenview, IL specifically for carrier landing practice. Quite the story of the USS Sable and USS Wolverine.

A few more links I googled

USS Sable (IX-81) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The carrier President George H. W. Bush qualified on.

Thanks for the heads up. I went thru Great Lakes for boot and flew 2-1/2 years on the Pacific Barrier in 58-61. Never heard of this. Really fascinating. I did pass it on to my fellow airmen at www.willyvictor.com.
Good luck and safe travels.

Believe it or not, in the early 70's I was boating on Lake Michigan and saw a PT Boat in the Waukegan area. Also, there was a young guy whose father had bought him a 1 man sub that he cruised the lake in. Thanks for the links. Bob T

Thanks for the links. I knew about this...because I was stationed at NAS Glenview from '69 to '72. Here is a picture of what is left of Hangar One today:
