I just want to say - you guys are old. LOL
1987 - 2017 Submarine Service
E2 - Command Master Chief
Like most of you, I miss the Shipmates and OPTEMPO terribly. Slowing down was much harder than I thought and being polite to everyone has it's challenges sometimes.
It is so nice to be out in the world and see a fellow VET. There is an understanding that others will never have. Like some of your broken senses of humor. LOL
Thank you all for YOUR Service!
Very Respectfully,
lance

Served 3 years (64-67) in the army as a wheel and track Mechanic. 63B30.
Got lucky. Was in the right place at the right time and made E5 in 22 months.
That give me the credentials to get hired as a mechanic in civilian life.
The VA just provided me with with a GREAT set of hearing aids. But still can't hear my wife all the time. OH Well.

16.5 years in the Coast Guard and retired in the 15 year early retirement program after my rating was frozen. Then another 20 years with GSA operating federal buildings and courthouses. In Detroit for 9/11 and murder of a coworker in the federal building. 1 year with a federal contractor and I have finally had enough. No more full time jobs!!
Seems to be lots of Coasties in this group. Anyone in 7th District during the Mariel Boat Lift or HMIO periods? I also did the inventory of personal property recovered from the CGC Blackthorn after it sank in Tampa Bay.

Was in Miami Civil Engineering '77-78... then Pensacola flight school '78-79...then Airsta Miami '80-83. Was a brand new aviator nugget standing duty on the OPS desk and took the call from the FBI that asked "what do you guys know about all the Cubans from Miami trailering their boats to Key West?".
That was the beginning of 6 months of absolute pandemonium at the Airsta. After several weeks of long days the XO thought I needed a break and sent me out to assist the Brooklyn aircrew aboard the USCGC Vigorous. Also remember the USCGC Blackthorn incident all too well.
