We are taking our Staffordshire Bull Terriers to Phoenix in a few weeks, followed by Silver Bay in San Diego, then back to Phoenix for the Scottsdale shows.
Thinking about a few others while we hide from winter.

We show Miniature Australian Shepherds. Linda and Taylor did well at the 2009 Nationals.
This is what bad dogs do when you don't take them with you.

It's been a while :) I process payroll and year end is an extremely hectic time for me and to top it off I got the seasonal flu.
I love UKC shows. They remind me of how AKC shows used to be when I started showing in 1979.
Handlers are not allowed, unless they are showing their own dog. I liked that right off the bat :)
The atmosphere is night-and-day different than and AKC show. It is very relaxed and FUN. Something that AKC has lost somewhere along the way.
The people, in Poms, that I show with in UKC are the very same ones I show with in AKC- so the quality is there.
More and more AKC judges are now judging in UKC. I was surprised about that, for some reason.
Another thing that I really like is that most judges, from Breed all the way to BIS, explain their placements and why. That is something that AKC judges used to do, when I started, and no longer do. It is a very nice way for a novice to learn.
Every one of the UKC judges has been WONDERFUL with my puppies. LOADS of patience!
You can register early (and get a discount) or same day of show.
As for the RV parking, FAR less expensive than AKC. My last UKC show was $15 a night for parking with electric & water.
If it sounds like I am a fan of UKC, it is because I am. Going to those shows reminds me of why I got into this sport so many years ago.... to have FUN!!

PNWGirl, thanks - your dogs are absolutely gorgeous. I'm a ways off where I want to be in Poms, but hope to get there someday! We've got the health, temperament, and drive that I want- now we just need to fix heads. :P

Hey Dogstar,
Thank you for the very nice complement. I have been lucky to have found excellent breeders for my foundation stock. In one case, I was on a waiting list for nearly two years.
What's your kennel name?
Sheila :)

We're heading to the Lost Dutchman KC show at the Arizona State Fairgrounds this week. The toy specialty for the affens is on Thursday and the AB portion is Friday through next Monday.
The forecast is for rain throughout the show, so we're delighted the rings will be indoors.
One of the nice features of this show is the RV lot we use at the show has full hookups.
Mrs. Wicked is excited as there will be majors in affens and she hopes to finish Toofer. We'll be showing 3 whippets and 3 whippets of our own each day, plus the welch terriers we show for my in laws.

Wicked Whippets siblings Mystic and Claire did well today during the final day of the Lost Dutchman KC show at the Arizona State Fairgrounds.
Mystic took Winner's Dog and Best of Opposite. Claire was Reserve behind the bitch that took Best of Breed.
The next big show is in March at Westworld in Scottsdale.

Best of Breed
Wicked Whippet's Claire (she's the smaller whippet in the photo above) won Best of Breed at the AKC Black Canyon City Lure Coursing event today. It was a 3-point major.
This was her first LC event and it was under terrible conditions; rain and mud.
Jonny, who is my LC regular, got a deep cut from the wet line on his first run and will need a couple days to recover.
Next stop is the American Whippet Association 2010 Nationals in Tucson!

At the Scottsdale cluster today we took WB with Jool and BOS with Ella.
We were expecting to finish our other affen, Toofer, but on Monday she was run over by a 30mph Wicked Whippet and suffered a front leg fracture. $1,400 worth of surgery on Tuesday and she should be back showing in 4-5 months.
