[QUOTE=tacksondeck;5285275]I don't remember the exact brace, but it was something like this: https://orthodog.com/index.cfm/produ...re-knee-brace/

We used the Orthodog brace for our Cocker Spaniel. We kept it on all day until bed time and of course did not allow any jumping or running. It took about 6 months for the limp and reaction to the torn ACL to go away.

Our local specialist said the recovery time was going to be 6 months. We figured we were even with that prognosis. At the time, about 5-6 years ago, the cost was around $5000 and no guarantee that the surgery was going to be successful. Morgan, the Cocker, is now 14 and going strong with lots of energy and she has never had another ACL issue.

Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

Well we decided to go ahead with the TPLO surgery. Took her to the Vet hospital this morning. Couldn't go in because of the covid 19 protocols they are still following. They came out and took her in. She would stop on the way in and look back like she was saying "ain't ya'll coming" that was tough.
Anyway the surgeon just called and she was already awake and doing great. We pick her up tomorrow. Again I want to thank everyone for your input and experiences. It always helps. I may try to do a weekly update on her progress. Maybe it will help someone else. This surgeon said he does 600 of these surgeries per year. It appears to be a fairly common problem.

Might be slightly off topic but do some reading on spay/neuter at 2 years old. Some of the data shows that dogs neutered later have a reduced risk of CCL injuries and some cancers. The hormones stop the growth of the long bones. Normal leg length helps reduce the stress on knee and hip joints.

Our standard schnauzer had TPLO surgery 6 weeks ago and is doing good. She gets her 6 week Xray and check up this afternoon. It has been rough trying to keep her slowed down.

We are full time RVers and have to lift her in and out of the 5er....5 steps and then 3 steps up to her bed. We keep her down stairs most of the day bought some cheap discontinues carpet at Lowe's to cut and fit over the time area.

What we do for our furry kiddos.

Ken
