Doggie Door

Anyone have any ideas how to put a small doggie door in a motorhome?

I didn't think dogs were allowed in campgrounds without leashes ? Aren't you worried a big dog will eat your little one ?

Been there and done that...in my previous 2003 30ft gasser. But I only did the screen door. I would not advise putting a dog door in the main out side door. The wind noise would be really bad. I assume you already use a fence set up which surrounds the door area. The hard part is under the steps if you have small dogs. For the screen door set up I got a doggie door from Lowes and had to adapt it a lot but it worked fine for the good weather days. I installed a metal kick panel on the bottom section of the screen door and cut out the area for the doggie door. THe dogs learned to stage up on the bottom step well and then push thru and out down the steps. Coming in was a little easier. I could give you more detail but since the doors are different brand to brand, my set probably would be different from what you need. I remember that I spent a couple of days figuring it all out and several trips to Lowes. But it can be done. We are full time and if I had to leash up and walk the dogs every time they need to pee, I would go back to living in a house. Instead all I have to do is open the door (in my under wear) and out they go. They yip when they want back in. It was even better with the doggie door but I'm not cutting a hole in my Dynasty screen door.

If your dog is completly quiet then I do t see a problem. However there is nothing more iratating, nor more inconsiderate, than to have a dog outside barking without the owner there to quiet that dog.

Pet Peave

Appreciate the opportunity to give you a place to share your pet peave.
We do not generally park in RV parks. We would be using it when we are away. We live in our RV full-time and generally are parked on a private lot away from others but do want a doggie door that would be functional for travel also.

Any doggie door that allows dog free roam in/out also allows free roam IN by animals/critters.......squirrels/skunks/rodents etc.

Especially when parked boondocking..

Get up and let dog out and back in.

Our dogs would kill any intruders just as they do at home. So far its possums 0-dogs 2; Raccoons 0-dogs 1.
