First trip complete. Cats aren't happy 😥
The main reason we bought the motorhome was to be able to travel with the cats. They adjusted to driving down the road and parking, but they missed their screened in porch from home. At home each morning they wait for me to let them out on the porch. And there they sat at the RV door waiting to be let out.
Do any of you have thoughts for screened enclosures for something like this? I realize this is nutty sounding - Is there any way to have a screened enclosure attached to the side of your rv?

Not sure how I’d attach it, but you could start with something like this. It’s collapsible, so it’s easy to store and we use one for our dogs. It has two doors that zip closed as well as a top that zips on and off.

I have seen small screened "boxes" that install in a window and cats can access it from the inside. Sounds perfect for your needs.

I actually have one of those. I was looking for something along the same lines, but bigger.
I wish they had a way to fully enclose the floor and wall area under the awning so the cats could not get out. Not knowing how to do that I considered something like this that the whole family along with the cats could use. Pricey, but I don't know anything better.

we have a fully enclosed cat shelter, but we rarely use it as the cat just goes out and goes under the trailer. she doesn't run!
i think the enclosure was called something like 'purrfect tent'. it's about 4 feet square and kind of tent shaped. there may be larger models.

Our cat is the same way. But after 3 days in the RV she is acclimated and does just fine. She only goes outside with us and that is on her leash and harness. She's fine with that until the dogs start invading. I would never leave her outside without us, even in an enclosure. Too many dog owners think leash rules don't apply to them and the RV dogs are getting larger and more aggressive. So she goes for "walks" around our campsite on her leash and is quite happy. It took some time to get used to the harness but now it's second nature. Chuck

This only works if your RV has sliding windows and screens, versus the crank out type. The units are homemade. You simply build a platform that fits in the widow opening and extends to the outside. Then make a wire screen (box) to enclose it. When you arrive, you open the window and insert the unit. The cats can climb in and out as they want.

Thanks for the tip. I will look it up. Other than going out in the screened in porch our cats are inside cats. Now would I trust them to stay near if they got out.

That's the big question. The potential problem I can see would be cats' nature to freak out if stressed. They are hardwired to run, maybe up a tree, maybe under something for hours (or longer), maybe a long distance. If an aggressive dog, other animal, or even children or loud truck were to spook them, then what do you do if they run and go missing? Even a cat that's easy-going at home would be at a heightened alert and stress level in new surroundings. I wouldn't allow our cats outside without a leash or some form of containment.

Our cats freak out at all kinds of sounds. They are used to being contained. No way they would stay nearby.

We also use a harness for our cat. We even put it on him at home and when we do, he knows it is time to go outside. We also attached an Apple Air Tag to the harness just in case he was to get away without the leash. Better safe than sorry.

SJMaye-
Some threads for you:
Cat House

RV Cat Enclosures
Out Catio
I had two cats. The first didn't live to travel in the RV. He was an indoor cat, but knew his way around the outdoors and so was not afraid to dodge out an open door or window. The second cat was totally indoor; he didn't even try to go outside. He went with me for around 30,000 miles of RVing. He loved to soak in the sun behind a screen. If I had to advise I'd say better to never let a cat out.
I did know one couple who successfully trained their cat to enjoy walking on a leash. He was noted for towing his servants around the RV park, at slow speed. Great cat- very mellow. Nice couple, too. ;-)
