Lost in Starvation
Hi….new to the site and to RVing.
I got my rig in March 2013…traveled a bit around the state before I headed out full time. I am one of those elusive single females you keep hearing about.
The motivating factor for getting out on the open road was my youngest child…she died in September. It was horribly devastating, I am still trying to come to terms with it.
But what was doubly heartbreaking was the loss of my beloved pet parrot Mani Chucklehead. She flew out of my rv as I was packing to leave Starvation state park in Utah…..I ended up staying an addition 10 days and contacting a pet psychic….to no avail. I lost my beloved Mani (I was her only MOM for 7 yrs) the same week as the anniversary of my daughters death.
I still have Buddy, my dog…..But no one to talk to.
Mani was an African Gray (timneh) she has a VERY large vocabulary and we would talk to each other all the time.
I returned to my home state of Texas for the winter….I'm going to stay on the coast. I love the beach, it's so relaxing. Hopefully come spring I will be able to move on with my life and my adventure.
Here are some pic of Mani…..I still have hopes someone has found her and is taking care of her….They just don't know how to contact me.
I know it's a long shot but some days that's the only thing that keeps me going….HOPE

Mani
I am so sorry to hear of your losses. Losing a child is terrible. Then the loss of a beloved pet on top of it is very sad especially when you do not know where she is or how she has made out.

TravelinZann,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Try contacting the local television station closest to the area that you lost your parrot. Many stations have reporters who specialize in helping consumers and will report human interest stories. It would be helpful if you have good photos of your pet parrot, as well. Good luck in finding your little friend.

So sorry to read of your double heartaches.
Did you leave all your contact info with the park?
The idea of contacting a tv station near the park looks like a good idea.
Thanks for joining irv2. You will find many pet lovers here. And who knows? In your travels you might even meet some of us in person!
Safe travels to you. And stay warm this winter. We'll see you out on the roads or by the campfire.

So very sorry to hear your story. I hope someone has taken her in.(or that she invited herself into someone's home when it got cooler.)

We have eight parrots, and have fostered many more over the years. Don't give up hope - we know of parrots reunited with their owners months later. Craigslist, veterinarian's offices and schools are good places to get the word out. I hope your grey is wintering with a great family and finds you again. I'm sorry for your double tragedies. Peace on your journey.

I would sure love to know if the lady who started this thread is still around and if she ever found her little Grey??? We will be traveling with two African Greys, but they are clipped and are never let loose when outside. My eldest, whom I raised from three weeks old, startled once while we were walking fro the car to the house. He was clipped with only his two longest flight feathers left. He startled and took off, I expected to run and grab him up in fifty feet or so. Instead I saw him as he cleared the corner of the house, catching a cross breeze and away he soared. We were lucky, very lucky. He landed in a tree along the back line of our ten acres. We only found him because he finally answered us and started talking as usual. It took two days to convince him to come down out of the tree, and I spent every bit of that time under that tree. Every evening the Red Tailed Hawk would circle. It was horrible. I never want to go through that again. They will always be caged when outside or when windows or doors are open.

Unfortunately, that's the only post the member made & they've never been back. Hopefully, they were reunited.
