New Cat

We have had our present cat for 8 years. Maggie Mae is a good girl. Travels well. But she does not play much anymore. Sometimes seems depressed. We thought that another cat might help. We knew that she does not like any animals. Hisses at cats and dogs.Adopted a one year old. Stanley is a great cat. Very friendly and smart. Maggie went nuts when we introduced Stan. We were told to keep them apart. We live in a large home with a loft so Stan was confined to the loft. Put them together in the great room and Maggie chased him. Growling and hissing. Then we put one in the sun room. The other in the great room. They can see each other through the patio door. Hissing and growling. After 3 days we put them both in the great room while we watched TV. At first some growling. Then one moved about 8 feet away and laid sleeping on the floor. The other is asleep on foot stool. Hoping things might change. Any suggestions. We love them both and we're already planning how to have 2 cat boxes in our Dynasty.

Cats

Moisheh,

Sounds like you're on the right track. We added a new cat to a house that already had two cats. It took awhile, and the two females never did become great friends, but all three played together eventually. We miss the thundering paws racing along the second floor hallway in the 3 cat chase.

Whenever we got a new cat I would brush them all with the same brush. It worked as a non threatening (in fact pleasant) way to introduce them to each other's scent(s). Gets them past the "hissy" stage quicker.
