Hello Gracie's Mom. I am not gonna ask you who Gracie is like everyone else does.
Hello to Lou and Rick too.

I am a retired college prof living now in the most photogenic part of the US, Kanab, Utah.

(How can I post picture in my signature. I have lots of photos.)

I'm 64 and I rather like the solo travel thing. At least much more than I ever figured I would. It seems that I have found out that I am a happy introvert and that I charge my batteries by being alone in the wilderness from time to time. My rig is very well suited to rock/gravel roads and isolation.
I'm heading out now. Its cold up here but in the 70s in Phoenix. I'll probably dry camp south of Ajo somewhere and 4x4 around looking for the missing photograph.

Kanab - welcome to the solo forum! I was in Ajo earlier in December - GORGEOUS place - and tons of photo opportunities as well. Never been to Kanab . . . need to put that one on my to-do list as well. People who aren't into photography just don't understand that it's an art form . . . you can't just snap a picture and move on. You have to play with the light, angles, etc. Something most of my friends don't have a lot of patience with, I'm afraid!! There's an area in the technical section of this website about uploading photographs.

http://irv2.infopop.cc/eve/for...094452/m/59810220441

That should help - if not, send questions and we'll try to guide you through. Again, welcome and we look forward to hearing about your journey! And seeing your photos.

Hey, Gracie, if you like photos, please check my blog. One of these days I'll try posting one on here, but like I said, one diary at a time.

I used to be a halfway decent photographer (film). I went on a trip with a friend and did all the photography. When I got the slides back, I started going through them and tossing about two-thirds of them in the trash. She was aghast!

But but, I said, they're not as good as these others and I don't need to keep them all and film is the cheapest part of photography. The expensive part is when you miss a shot, or don't bracket your exposures.

She fished them all out of the trash and kept them. Souvenirs? Baffled me.

That's what I love about digital . . . I take a thousand shots, keep a couple hundred . . . LOL! No wasted money!! My photos are my souveniers . . . I do buy some postcards sometimes of shots I can't get because I'm not flying a helicopter or visiting in another season . . . but my photos are my treasured memories of my traveling. And I take a LOT. I'm going to have to put my photos on one of those websites - Flickr or something like that - so I can share more. I hate having to resize them . . . one of those sites will let me put them up "as is". I'd love to see some of yours!!

I acquired my first-ever digital camera in Sept. 08 so I'm still learning all the things it can do.

I did learn to upload photos to my blog, and they go automatically into a Picasa album. I know there's a URL for the album. Hmmm. I'll have to track it down and post it here -- then you can just go look at the pretty pictures.

To post a link, click on the "URL" button above the box where you type your message and paste the URL in the "URL" part. You can also paste the URL in the title part as I did or you can put any description you like in there.

Dirk, now that you've pointed it out, I do see the row of little helpful thingies above the message box. Next time, I'll try to use one. But thanks.

K-belly, I think digital's more fun but it strikes me as sort of cheating because it's so easy to make a pic look better. With film, you had to plan ahead and know stuff. And I can't get used to not putting the camera to my eye -- I want to compose "in camera" not crop later. Well, I'm working on it.

In the past we did as much "cheating" in the darkroom as we do in the computer today. You still have to be a photographer to be a photographer. For myself I simply replaced my Canon Elan body with a canon digital body. Same lenses. Same processes. Same skills (or luck) up front.
