OK, I've officially had it with winter. This is the view out my window. That looks like ALMOST AN INCH of white nasty on the ground. But it's not like I'm going out there to measure!

I was going to head to Ohio tomorrow but the forecast for yesterday was 6-12" up there. It looks like another week just north of Nashville. Maybe I'll bake some bread. It's not like I'm in danger of overheating the camper.

That is for sure a "sad" looking photo! Maybe a pot luck dinner in the clubhouse is in order?

I live 15 miles north from the OH/KY/WV tri-state. I got 4 inches of snow ON TOP OF 1/4 INCH OF ICE from last night. those to the south about 50 miles away are claiming 6-8 inchs of snow.

X2!
Here is a photo of my back yard this morning. Freezing rain all night long, and it's still freezing and raining.

A question for y'all that camp in the ice and snow, how do you get down the folding metal steps when they have iced over during the night?

????? Getting DOWN is easy. Only takes a split second. However picking yourself up after getting down takes longer and longer every year.

Seriously, my Class C only has one step so I hold on and just step straight to the ground. I do carry a plastic coffee can of rock salt in an outside storage comprtment. I should probably rethink the wisdom of that location.

Ice on steps

Just a simple suggestion. Try carrying a plastic pail of cat litter. It is not caustic and will not cause rust. It will wash away easily and gives great grip.

Good idea. Cat litter for traction on steps

That is a good idea.

Since I don't have any cat litter, I used some sand I had left over from a project. The sand works good but night be more abrasive on the metal steps.

I'll hose down the steps for clean up now that the freezing weather is gone. I hope!

From a safety standpoint you're better off with the sand. In your picture you're parked over grass so for the half dozen or so times you might need to use it, there won't be a big difference.

My ex used cat litter on a concrete stoop several years ago. After a few weeks of an Ohio winter with freeze/thaw cycles and being walked upon the clay litter broke down into a super slippery goo. I finally had to use a pressure washer on a warm day to remove it.

I can't help but wonder if Farmers Insurance really thought through that commercial! It works OK as a one time thing but... just because its on TV doesn't make it a great idea.

I'm full timing so repainting the step is part of yearly maintenance. And if I need to de-ice the step, I most likely want to clear the immediate area also. For me, rock salt works best. But as always, your mileage may vary.

Of course, if you're not living in the trailer just retract the steps!

I'm here!

I've been de-winterizing and sanitizing my Class B - that went well on Saturday. This morning, I got distracted and forgot I was plugged in ... 1.5 hours later and some crazy glue to fix broken plastic parts, I got the electrical connector all together again - and, it works!

By this time last year I had already been away for a weekend - this winter and spring have been long and cold so still haven't been anywhere - possibly next weekend I'll go up north (Algonquin Park, Ontario) for the weekend ... weather permitting.

Cheers,

Steve

I have started putting my stuff back in my camper today. It has been to cold to do anything with it. Someone is borrowing mY 5th wheel hitch, I will have it back next weekend. But I am busy next weekend, the following is Mother's Day.mi could probably go then, but I shouldn't lol
The weekend after that is our usual first of the year trip with the group, then Memorial Day.

This summer is half way over and it isn't even summer yet

Next stop?

Hello everyone....been awhile since I've posted to this site. Traveled from Florida to NC to help my daughter and family move into a new home out in the country and get through a surgery for a herniated disc in her neck. All is well, my work here is about finished. Not the right time of year to be going back to FL so wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a fun, warm, place to hang out for the month of May?
Nancy

I am still here, that's my problem can't seem to get away. Some one is always dying and I must pay respect to the family. I am not happy about it, but I am not complaining loudly either, as I am still walking on top of the grass.

I sort of lost track of my posting to "Solos just conversation." Once I got the problem of ice on the steel steps solved, the ice and snow have gone away. Thank God for that!

I am preparing for a HPV (Human Powered Vessel) get-together at Lake Bastrop, TX on May 31. I wanted to make sure that everything works as planned. I started out "small" with an overnighter to Twin Dikes Park on Sam Rayburn Reservoir (an easy 80 miles away from my place).
Here's the rig:

Here's my campsite:

Here's an even nicer campsite (if I had only known):

At $7.00 per night (with senior pass), you can't go wrong.
No hookups at the lakefront sites, but if you want hookups they have them away from the lake.

Everything worked fine. I enjoyed rowing and camping on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and I got a chance to use my Champion 3100W generator/inverter.

It kept the A/C running (just for 2 hours) which was all I needed to keep cool.
