I looked at the link and the hotspot plan is more expensive per month but much cheaper per gigabyte than either Virgin Mobile or Straight Talk. I've never used up all the bandwidth on my 1 gig plans.

I am online fairly frequently but I don't download music or videos and on my laptop I usually kept java script turned off unless needed. The j.s. ads seem to add 1/4 to 1/3 to my bandwidth useage and definately slows loading of web pages.

I'm at a fleamarket right now and last night night a guy was listening to XM radio. Great! I'd listened to the 60's and 70's programs before but he was playing "classic vinyl". He had a new truck with upgraded sound system. Nice! I think I might have to splurge on one of those doodads. I'd need to upgrade the in dash stereo and maybe one with a remote control for evening listening.

A friend emailed me a link to a thread on this forum. Although the OP is requesting help with rewiring an Alpine Class A the underlying problem was an AGM battery shorting internally and causing a fire.

http://www.irv2.com/forums/f104/batt...re-211965.html

It also seems the battery manufacturer warns of this. There's a link to a pdf about AGM problems but pdf's crash my tablet.

If you're considering AGMs, the thread is worth reading.

There was a guy in the Yahoo group several years ago, Doctor Reefer or some such thing, pushing these batteries. I'm glad I ignored him. Given the tremendous number of wet cells in use vs. the relatively miniscule number of AGMs, it doesn't sound good from a safety standpoint. Sort of like the pill that solved a yellow toenail condition but with a possible side effect of liver failure!

Thanks for the link, Mangy.

Interesting!

I'll remember this (I hope...my current batteries are new and will last a long time).

I started a thread over on the solocampers forum about hints, repairs, and modifications. My post was about making a tool to help in removing water heater temperature/pressure relief valves.

Hints, Repairs, and Modifications - RV, Camper and Trailer Talk - Solo Campers Community Forum

That forum is slow but you don't have the "drive by" posters you see here. I've got a few more to post like an inexpensive "stay-a-while" type propane hookup for motorhomes, my solar installation, and storage ideas. Some ideas are the result of years as a general contractor and others recently (and shamelessly) stolen from folks smarter than me.

Send a message via Skype™ to Barbara S.
I have one of those "stay awhile" hose connrctors but whenI went to buy a propane tank I realized that I could not carry it when it was full of propane so I gave up on the idea.

At my "local" Walmart they dug out 2 Dell laptops that came loaded with VISTA!

A display model that was $748 is now $374. And one in a sealed box that was $798 is now $448. They've been there for a few weeks. The batteries are likely shot. I think I read some years back that you can't just load XP over the Vista OS. I'll guess they'll sit for several more weeks or until they cut the price in half again.

I finally had to ask if they had a laptop running XP SP3 hidden in back somewhere. No luck. So I'm still using this silly tablet thing.

Good to hear from you Mangy. WOW is right....geez my desktop came loaded with Vista and that's 10 years old. Sam must have missed those on the inventory. Not sure if you'd want the XP OS either as I understand they quit any updates a ways back. My Vista still works with DSL...altho like watching paint dry sometimes. Bigger question is what kind of CPUs are in them. Might not be DouQuad so would even be slower. Be safe.

There are bound to be other luddites who dislike online shopping, so-

Walmart now has white LED automotive bulbs. My "local" store had several types that averaged around 2 for $15. Sorry, I lost the sales slip but that is close. The 1156's I bought look a tad cool but they're not autopsy blue.

Welcome Rick. Might want to join the Yahoo RV singles forum too. Do a search. Lots of people coast to coast.

The Lodi Travel America at exit 209 from I-71 in Ohio is now charging $5 to dump your tanks.

It was to be expected I guess- maybe even overdue. A lot of local folks would come in, dump and then leave without even buying gas or food.

If it had rained, and the "sump" had some standing water, some scumbags were too ignorant to push the cover with a stick and drain the water but rather would dump on top. And, of course, all over the ground.

Heck, two weeks ago I saw another pair of dirtbags in a hybrid dump on the ground at Litchfield Flea market a few miles away. Maybe the $5 fee was being levied then! LOL!

Some say that campers are so "nice" in comparison to the general public. Sorry, after about 4 years fulltime it is not true. But I will say almost all solos I've met have had better manners than the couples and "families".

You are right about that, Mangy! I see a lot of rude boondockers at WM, at dump stations, dog runs and the like.
Just like at the Love's, that also charge $5..... It's worth it when you need it!
