Its a '87. I installed the engine about 6 years ago. I went from 205 to 235 tires for a ittle bit of ratio improvement. It turns about 3300 rpm at 60 mph and that is as fast as I drive it. It will turn close to 5000 rpm. Acmeadapters.com makes the conversion kit.

Hello from Dan.we tow a 87 Samurai !! I saw that in your post, you also have a Samurai toad. But some how yours has a VW motor ??? & diesel ??? Wow .. must be nice..
I wonder what year your Samurai is and did you need to change the drive ratio for the lower rpm of the diesel? I have many more questions, but enough for now.. Thanks, Dan... 8-)
