The Monaco factory gave me the comments about the ends being installed and not counting as actual length. My rv was sold (2008), as a forty footer, the next year they called them 42 footers. Probably were not aware they might have a conflict in Calif. But who knows. After any simple accident they won't be 42 feet long.
Noticed you are from Calif. We grew up there and left Yuba City ten years ago. Our coach is also 42 ft long if measured end to end. However, in Calif they require a class B non commercial for anything over 40 feet. Calif cannot tell how to measure one as I spent six months trying to get an official answer and nothing came back satisfactory. The front and rear pieces are beyond the frame and are much like the mirrors for measurement purposes. It took me a couple of weeks just to get a written test for the non commercial test. They gave me parts of two different tests. Then it was going to be 6-8 weeks before a road test could be done. I gave up and ultimately left Calif for Florida where my license here is good in all states so I don't have to be concerned in Calif when we return for travel. I kept some of the correspondense about the issue.
