Operating costs
 
Not counting purchase price

What is the annual operating costs of a diesel (Winnebago Via) compared to Travel trailer. Maintenace, insurance, fuel,etc.

This will help in decision making.

Ball park.

let me see if I've got this right....you want US to calculate the annual operating costs, including fuel, without giving us the size of the ballpark you are gonna be driving. Man, that's a tall order!

I'll take a shot at this, however I cannot predict an annual cost since you don't state how much you intend to use the Winnebago Via. I will try and break it down into categories. Maintenance per 10,000 mi of usage about $500. Fuel at $3.90/ gal per 10,000 mi @ 10 mi/gal about $3900. Insurance based on part time use, and $ 100,000 value about $ 850. Then figure $ 1200 for storage/parking, another $ 600 for sat tv, and another $ 750 for "things".

I just don't want to know. Not on the Penny.........

2x Oilchange etc = $ 250.00
1x GEN Service = @ 180.00

Fuel = about $30 per 100 km (60Miles)

Our Bay Star is only 4 years old.
GEN Repair last month was @ 754.00 (just out of Warranty:rolleyes:)

The cost would be significantly more than a TT and anything with a Benz in it would have to cost more.

It is a tall order without more data. CG cost and storage should be about the same as a TT. The maintenance is probably in the $800 to $1000/ year ballpark if nothing is broken. Fuel for mine cost about $0.57/mile but I would hope the Via is much better than 7 mpg. Insurance is probably about $800/yr more than a TT. I would also think that tires are much more expensive and if anything does break then you have the whole category of "repairs" come into the equation although this can be somewhat managed via the purchase of a good extended warranty. At least it helps predict repair costs.

These are really apples and oranges comparisons.

Makes no difference the size you are interested in. If operating costs are that important then get a travel trailer.

I agree that this is probably the bottom line. :thumb: Above and beyond the costs already mentioned a diesel can ensure that your wallet doesn't ever get too heavy. Hopefully the Via will be kinder than the big DPs.

I did say Winnebago Via. They are 25 feet.

With a TT you still need a Tow Vehicle gas or diesel. Equalizing hitch, brake controller, wiring etc. Do you use the TV as a daily driver or just as an RV? You can put $$$s in a PU!

At this stage I don't have anything other tthan a 2010 mountaineer V8 w/class III hitch.

Just trying to figure out what route I want to go. Appreciate all the help I can get.
