Trans won't talk to me
I recently changed trans fluid and filters in my Allison 3000MH.
The controller won't talk to me. When I try to check the oil level, all it says is "ol 70" (oil not hot enough). Even after a 3 hour drive from Tucson to Yuma. Even a day later, with the engine off, it displays "oL 70". It did give me an "oL 50" once, which was correct at the time, but hasn't done that again. There are no error codes, but who knows if that's working either.
I'm gonna be honest and tell you I don't know if this feature ever worked before I changed the oil. I didn't thoroughly read the manual and was only checking the oil level with the dip stick.:nonono:
The trans runs smoooooth.
Any one have a suggestion on how to wake 'er up before I call Allison.
Not uncommon when using TranSynd. I have the same "problem".
To "cure" it you need to used the dipstick to be sure you have enough fluid, then hold the brake pedel and put the trans in gear, raise the RPM to create a static load. This will heat the trans fluid up and might be enough to do it. I also know that the fluid cools off rapidly while waiting for the countdown so the above still might not work.
Yesterday, after a 2+ hour drive, we were backing into our site. On a whim, I used Mr_D's suggestion, but only for 10 or so seconds. Lo and behold, the transmission spoke to me. First, I got an 80 second countdown, then it told me it was a quart low. Brilliant!
In another forum, some folks who experience the same issue said they were told by Allison that it was a good thing their trans ran cool and was not a big deal and to check the fluid as you've always done with your car.
I added the quart today and I'll check it the same way next week at our next destination.
Needa put a line lock on the bus, heat the trans with a smoky burnout!
