Generator

This weekend while making tight turns my generator would turn off. I called the local dealer and he told me I might be low on oil. I topped off oil and went on my way. Worked fine. Checked oil before leaving and was fine. Just before home make a tight turn and generator off. I am going to change oil, should this solve my problem? Sorry generator is a guardian 55 with just over 100 hours. Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum! Sounds like a strange problem and I'll let our experts chime in with suggestions.

Best of luck.

The issue is that turning is pushing the oil to one side of the genset, uncovering the oil level switch, which makes the generator think it is low on oil.

If the oil level is on the top of the "full" range and it's doing this - something is wrong.

are you using the correct weight oil? Too thin would make it slosh easier, uncovering the oil switch.

is the genny clean? if overheating or running hot it can use oil due to the extreme heat and the heat would cause thinner than normal oil..which can slosh like above

I doubt if changing the oil will help, but changing the filter might. A dirty filter can change the oil pressure, which might be enough to trip the oil pressure switch in some conditions.

Could also be low fuel - the genny fuel pick-up is well above the bottom of the rv's tank, typically around the 1/4 tank level. A tight turn could lead to fuel starvation.

If this is oneof the later model 55's, it will flash a diagnostic code on the start switch light if there is an actual fault, e.g. low oil. Your owner manual should give the fault light and code info under the operator controls section. If you don't have the manual, this one may apply to yours (there are several versions of the Guardian 55.
