2000 Southwind 35S Driveline Problem
Has anyone had this happen. Ford 450 chassis 45K miles--The driveline flange that bolts to the transmission flange sheared its bolts and hit the pavement at 50mph. The shop showed me where the bolts were only 1/4 inch threaded into the trans flange. Of course that toasted the driveline carrier bearings and punched a hole in the floor. It could have been worse. We had little warning before it broke. We are 3rd owner and I talked to the other 2 owners and they said no one had worked on the driveline at all. Wondering if this was a 450 ford chassis problem??? Took 3 days to find proper parts as Ford obsoletes parts after 8 or 9 yrs. Thanks

No vibration before this event?

That is one thing I cant say I have ever seen. Even if there was a drive line vibration, it usually kills the center carrier bearings. Seems like the bolts were left loose or maybe grossly over tightened and the bolts gave up. See this with lug nuts where guys think they need to stall their 1/2" air gun at full torque for lug nuts. In most cases around 100 FTLB's of torque is all that is needed and specified.
