Cleaning SATV dish
My SATV dish is really dirty, including the LNB. Can anyone recommend the best way to clean off the crud? I'm wonding if a spray-on cleaner that would dissolve the dirt and then could be washed off with a water spray be best to avoid potential damage to the dish by rubbing/scrubbing with a brush or sponge? The SATV picture seems fine, but the dish is covered with a coating of dirt that sure looks bad and I fear may eventually degrade the sat signal reception.
Hubby cleans ours with a rag, soap, and water when he is up on the roof. The trick is not to move the position of the dish or you will have to reposition it. Soap and water does not hurt it. Nor does spraying it with a hose.
I currently don't have a SAT dish, but these things are designed to be out in the weather all year. I would assume that a mild soap and soft cloth should not harm the finish. A mild spray on cleaner like Simple Green should also work. As they typically say, test in a small hidden area if unsure.
Something to think about while cleaning the dish is this new hydrophobic coating from Rust-Oleum called NeverWet to help keep the SAT dish clean. Liquids just roll off. Check it out, just Google NeverWet.
