Which one?

What would YOU pick for a fulltime rig.
#1 2014 Tiffin Phaeton 42LH
#2 2012 Winnebago Tour 42QD with 6000 miles

And even though the Tour would be a little less money lets just say by the time I did upgrades they were equal money.

In this case probably the Tour. It is a slightly higher end coach and much of the depreciation has already taken place. I do like Tiffins, but I was looking more at Allegro Buses, which are similar to the Tour.

The big question is which floor plan does the D/W like best??

HDrider 10-20-2013 01:35 PM

We both like both floor plans. In fact I would probably be the biggest hold up because of new versus used and warranty which is very important to me. But I'm trying not to get hung up on it.

HDrider 10-21-2013 12:49 PM

Hmmmm,,, I thought there would be more input in this one.

You're already operating a Tiffin. Are you unsatisfied? Do you have a compelling reason to change?

NLOVNIT 10-21-2013 12:59 PM

With both floorplans being equally liked, I'd choose the Tour.
  • The worst of the depreciation has already been taken on the Tour
  • Probably the majority of QC issues have already been addressed on the Tour
  • The Tour is the top of the line for Winnebago whereas the Phaeton is 3rd from the top for Tiffin
  • The money you save buying used will fund your upgrades

After viewing a you tube report on a Tour that was rejected by the buyer due to total lack of QC, I would go with the Tiffin. If your interested the post is on Chuck Woodbury's RV Travel magazine. It is free and comes out once every Saturday. It's an interesting watch!

Neither...I would want a side radiator. Allegro Bus or Entegra Anthem.

I had a good look at a 42' Winnebago Tour at the FMCA, Gillette, WY. My wife and I really like the layout and the quality. It looks as though Winnie has really improved their product line.
We would buy one in a heartbeat if we were FT and had the resources.

I would also check on how Winnebago treats 2 nd owners as far as repairs go. I know thor gives 2nd owners nothing. Most of the individual items in the coach come with a 1 yr warranty.

This unit has been very good to us but now that we are fulltime we want something a little more homey I guess. A little more room,, residential refer, bath & a half ect.
The Tour jumped out because of the floor plan, 150 gal fuel tank and we think the interior is a little nicer than the Phaeton. But most of that is looks.
Nothing bad to say about Tiffin at all.

Both nice,, but we want the corner tv and a bath & a half and to get that in a Tiffin bus means pretty new and out of our comfort zone money wise.
And the Entegra bat & a half floor plan is not for us unfortunately. Plus the Anthem is up there in price for us.

Just a personal choice, but I would go with the higher level coach if the money is about the same. We recently acquired a 2005 Newmar KSDP. We have looked at a lot of new coaches that we would not trade even for. Some of those were selling or two or three times what we paid.

The underlying quality is so much more important than just being new. A new coach is an old coach by next season, but a good quality coach will still be worth having for a long time.
