An Introduction... and what the heck have I done?

Howdy folks! Glad to find this place. As of today, we are nervous owners of a 1977 Sportscoach motorhome. Yep...that's right. Nineteen Seventy Seven. The decade of disco (and we found some original carpet in a storage compartment. Burnt orange shag. Yea, baby!, as Austin Powers would say). We already know that the cost of purchase is just the start, and we're prepared to drop some bucks over time to get it where we want it, and more to keep it that way. Hopefully our estimation of the shape of the unit is fairly accurate, and I think we'll be in good hands of the RV guys we found to help out with the big stuff.

We're not long haul road warriors. We're weekenders and music festival campers. Years of pop-up camping at music festivals was fun, but when it comes to music festivals, you never can tell what the weather is going to be. The last three years, we set up in the rain, broke down in the rain and endured below average temps at night. My wife said, "DONE!". Moving to something that doesn't require as much set up or break down in bad weather. So here we are, in an ancient motorhome.

I look forward to learning from y'all's past experiences (mistakes and all) and can get some tips on how to approach some aspects of repair and renovation.

Welcome and check out the Vintage group... they are a great bunch and know a lot and can help you with many of the questions you will come up with and maybe even some you didn't know you had! 1977 was a very good year! My baby is only 11 years younger than yours and still going...

Thanks for the welcome!

I have now introduced over at the vintage page, as suggested.

Since the last post, we picked up the unit and drove it to the RV shop. A harrowing drive, to say the least. The drive train needs more work than I had anticipated, but at least it got there and didn't crash, burn and kill me. I can laugh about it now, several days after the fact, but the weekend was most stressful, as we attempted, and finally succeeded in getting it driven to the shop.
