No start generator again
 
Tradewinds 2000,model 7373. The generator will not start again. I called a camping world mechanic and they said that the generator started with the two 12 volt engine start batteries. If that is so, why do they start the diesel 300 hp engine with no trouble and will not start the generator? Can some one with my model tradewinds help me figure out which battery bank starts the generator, or anyone else with the knowledge of my problem. Even when i hit the boost while trying to start the generator it does not change a thing. It just clicks when it trys to start. If I knew it was a battery problem and which ones were at fault i would purchase new ones. I need help as i have been told two different things on which batteries are at fault. :facepalm:

Should start from the chassis batteries. Sounds like you have another problem, loose or corroded battery cable, positive or negative for the generator. Bad starter relay or bad starter. Someone with the same model coach will be along and may have other suggestions.

I'm with chboone's suggestions above. Clicking or chattering is 99% of the time poor battery cable connections. I would first clean both positive and negative cables where they connect to the generator. Looking clean isn't enough - many times cables look very clean but underneath where they make contact isn't.

On my coach, the Generator is started by the house battery bank. The FIRST problem to recognize is that it is a loooong run from the batteries to the Gen, about 25 feet. So, under load, you loose a couple of volts in the cable and the connections, relays, etc. it goes through on the 12 volt distribution panel. I've had start problems before and found that bad ground connections were the cause..... at the Generator itself and then again at the chassis Battery bank ground to chassis. My suggestion...thoroughly clean all DCV grounds and connections that you can get to. Having a DC volt meter and the knowledge to use it is very helpful in isolating the problem. Rook.
