bap 10-08-2014 08:32 AM

goodmorning everyone,,,,having first cup of coffee,,,,u could say i kinda slept in since its 10:33am....lol

Gordon Dewald 10-08-2014 08:39 AM

I used to sit at night when the notifications came through and review all the IRV2 threads I was interested in. Now I save them to review while sitting in the Customer Lounge at the dealer.

Today should be the last day in the lounge.

Franka548 10-08-2014 12:17 PM

Gordon,
I hope everything gets fixed to your satisfaction and in a timely fashion. My truck has been at the dealer since last Wednesday and the only thing they have done is say yes, what you say is wrong is correct. Oh, and it is 8 hours labor to dig in just to diagnose, so I am, luckily at the campground and have a rental car to get around, but still, sometimes these dealers are atrocious to deal with.
Frank

bap 10-09-2014 04:25 AM

goodmorning everyone,,,
GORDAN did they get u taken care of ?
FRANK,,, i use to work in a dealership,,,service dept.-----there is a reason they call them stealerships,,,,i hope you have an honest dealership,,,belive me theres not many that are left,....thats why i quit,,,they didnt want me being honest ..and im just not built that way...---

Franka548 10-09-2014 07:21 AM

Thanks bap, the dealership was recommended by someone that I know from the area. I understand what you are saying, I normally don't go to them, but I am not in a position to do it myself in the campground, so I am kind of stuck. I just wish they would get to work on it, I want to be at my winter spot in Florida by the 15th, and I can see the time running out rapidly.
Frank

bap 10-09-2014 12:01 PM

i sure hope u make it in time,,,
were heading to gulf shore,s on the 15th,,---god willing

Franka548 10-10-2014 06:14 AM

Thanks bap,
Talked to the service writer yesterday and they had to order a control module to be in today, hopefully that was the problem. Hopefully I can pick it up today. If so, I will leave in the morning and will be in Sunday afternoon. Have fun on the shores, I am heading down 65 to 231, so I won't be too far away from where you will be.
Frank

bap 10-10-2014 07:29 AM

goodmoring everyone,,,, hope ur part comes in today FRANK,..

Franka548 10-10-2014 07:11 PM

bap,
Part came in today, but they didn't get it put back together, so staying the weekend, and hopefully they will get it done Monday. I just hope that the $1200 part is the problem. If it isn't we are going to have a BIGGGG fight, I'm not paying for them to guess at what's wrong, they said that they don't take back electrical parts. It is the Fuel Injection Control Module. They already pulled the left side valve covers off to check the injector coils, 4 to 6 hours labor.
Frank

bap 10-11-2014 05:03 AM

man i hope so,,,how long u been at the shop,=we had people have to camp at the dearlership a night or 2 but not long,,,andm we were a car an truck dealership..

where are u located ?..

and i hope this will be a greatmorning for u..

Franka548 10-11-2014 07:20 AM

bap,
It has been in since the 1st , I'm in Smyrna, Tennessee just south of Nashville. The diesel tech works on the commercial side and was already booked, they worked me in. I rented a car and just turned it back in and got a loaner. It is a big dealership that does commercial small trucks and vans besides the cars.
The weather has been so-so, a lot of rain, but not real cold, s0 I guess you could say it is OK. I spent 2 days in a Kroger plaza parking lot when I first broke down, was 19 miles from the campground. I found a guy that hauls RV's for a local RV dealership to haul the 5er to the campground, and limped the truck to the dealers( it was running on 4 cylinders) So no tow bill, I guess you could say that it could have been worse, just getting frustrated with the wait.
Thanks for listening,
Frank

Harley1994 10-11-2014 08:49 AM

Frank, sorry to hear your still in the shop, your driving the 03 chevy?, I don't want to make you nervous, but a friend of mine had the same yr duramax and ended up trading it because he couldn't get it straightened out to run like it should, of course you can't say that its the same, its just I think that alot of techs nowadays do alot of guessing at cust expense.

Franka548 10-11-2014 05:20 PM

Thanks Harley1994,
Yes it is an 03 Chevy. The truck runs good, did have to put injectors in it but that is expected on the first generation, I just repaired brake lines that were rusted through, on this trip also. You have to figure a few thousand dollars every couple years is a lot cheaper than $70,000+ for a new truck. There are only 4 things that it can be, loose wire on the injector coil, broken wire in the injector wiring harness, bad injector coil, or bad FICM. Left bank injectors were ok(checked those first because they were changed in May), they checked good, right bank has been in for 2years, so good bet that they are ok. The problem is to check the injector coils is 8 hours labor to pull the 2 valve covers. I couldn't do it in the campsite, too much rain, so I was kinda stuck taking it to the dealers.
By the way, nice job on the door and frame on your toyhauler build.
Frank

bap 10-11-2014 08:51 PM

looks like they could just plug it into ur ecm and they could read thye codes and fix the issue,,,,,i worked in the swervice department and we were just a smaller redneck dealership, ford, dodge chrysler and jeep....but it seemed evbertime the big dogs in detroit couldnt figure something out they would send it to use to solve there problem,,and we did most everytime...with out zipties and duct tape..lol..

sounds to me like they want to sell u a new rig,..i have seen it before,,,another one of the reasons i left...dishonestlty...i pray foor u that ur not in one of those places,,,
keep us posted....best of luck...

Harley1994 10-12-2014 04:25 PM

Frank, arn't those brake lines fun, we've done dozens at the shop I used to own. They put that ABS Mod in a great spot.

Franka548 10-13-2014 06:56 AM

Harley1994,
Yes on the fun, I will get the stainless prebent lines for it, probably next year. You can tell that the bean counters are running the company, not the engineers that are supposed to be. The biggest problem is that GM refuses to coat anything underneath the vehicle, they don't want to pay anything extra.
Hopefully, I can get my truck back today. I am supposed to be in Florida Wednesday.
Frank

bap 10-13-2014 07:50 AM

Best of luck frank,,,,

Harley1994 10-13-2014 11:29 AM

X2 Best of luck.

Fred1609 10-13-2014 11:39 AM

just having my second cup of java...Its thanksgiving in Canada, so its a day off.....Wish you all, especially Frank, a better day.

Franka548 10-13-2014 01:03 PM

Thanks guys,
It still isn't fixed, the tech was on the phone with GM tech and now they want to change the 4 injectors in the one circuit, I told them to change the 2 on the right bank because it was already tore apart, they also found a compromised wire in the circuit, so hopefully it will be done by the end of the day. Oh and GM says keep the new FICM in because the old one is probably shot due to the load in the injector circuit. Right now, I believe that they are all guessing, they don't seem to teach much troubleshooting to the techs nowadays, if it doesn't show up on the computer screen, just throw parts at it.
Frank

Harley1994 10-13-2014 02:10 PM

Frank, sorry to hear the problems your having, I always said that most dealers use the shotgun approach, throw everything new at the system they are trying to fix and something will happen, rather then diagnose then put what it really needs, I have seen so many new techs that could not figure out on their own.

Franka548 10-13-2014 05:00 PM

ok guys,
Ended up changing 2 injectors on the right bank, found one of the injector firing coils had rotated in the holder, opening up the circuit. The truck ran and codes cleared as they should, Yeah. Then the bad news, injector hung open on the left bank, so not heading to Florida tomorrow, and $$$$ keep adding up.
Frank

Harley1994 10-14-2014 04:20 AM

Good morning, Frank sorry to hear your trouble is multipling, maybe today is the day you finally get going again!!

bap 10-14-2014 06:36 AM

sorry frank,,,,,,we still maybe driving close to one another our trip to the shore,s is delayed due to a death in the family....we were going to head that way on the 15th as well....

Franka548 10-14-2014 08:04 AM

Thanks for all the kind words, sorry for your loss bap. It is always a sad day to lose a family member.
Frank

bap 10-14-2014 08:54 AM

thanks frank,,,the worst part is....the dad had just died a few moths ago,,the mother has no intrest in the kids and the lady, the mother of the son that died had just gotton custody of the children....,,,,i feel horrable for those kids..the only ones close to them have passed and there mother hasnt been in there life for years....

i hope u get ur truck on the road today..,,,,i know they just want u to buy a new one..
i have seen it to many times,,

Franka548 10-14-2014 09:58 AM

thanks bap,
Buying a new one just isn't going to happen. I told the DW last night that we weren't supposed to leave this morning for some reason, and looking at the wind and rain, it is probably for the best. If we get the truck today before dark, we will be fine, I will just have to drive tonight, which I don't usually do.
I'm sorry to here about the kids, that is a terrible way to have to live.
Frank

guardrail53 10-14-2014 11:33 PM

Yes, every morning drinking my coffee here in northern Thailand, I check on everyone and their posts! But my morning here is 12 hrs. ahead of your mornings! hahaha! So my mornings are your evenings! You guys are getting ready for bed, and I am catching up on everyone's projects! Frank, I am sorry for your mechanical problems, I know them too well being in the trucking business for so many years! It can be very frustrating! Bap, sorry for your loss! Rail!

bap 10-15-2014 07:04 AM

thanks rail,,,,,
frank,,,,,i belive like u rvrything happens for a reason, most we wull never know,,,,but some stay in our minds likke seeing a bad wreck, and for some reason u couldnt leave when u wanted,,,u see the wreck and know if u would have left when u wanted u would have been in or very close to that...

Franka548 10-15-2014 02:39 PM

thanks guardrail53, bap, that's the way I look at it, the weather yesterday morning was not the nicest and the wind would have blown us all over the road, not to mention the horrible fuel mileage. Well here is the latest and hopefully last update, changed the bad injector, then got a call, truck won't pull itself, no fuel pressure. I told the service writer to throw the switch under the dash to turn on the lift pump that I added. Low and behold, everything was ok. $3900 later and all is well, The only thig I am upset with was the $1225 FICM that they thought was bad but wasn't, the rest of the bill, I have no problem with.
Anyways, left Smyrna at 4pm, got into our site in Florida this afternoon at 1:30. Stopped at a Walmart last night at 11:30 of course there was the sign NO overnight RV parking, but I stayed anyways, I was too tired to go on. 700 miles and truck seemed to be running like it should. It is good to be at our winter home, and seeing some of our friends that are already here.
I guess the old saying all's well that ends well applies here.
Thank you to everyone that sent their kind response's to our problems. This is one of the many things that makes this site so GREAT.
Frank

Harley1994 10-15-2014 04:56 PM

Frank glad your in your winter home, so it really is a good morning :thumb:!

Franka548 10-16-2014 06:12 AM

Thanks bap,
Will try to get some pics up if DW will do it, I mess it up every time I try. Sitting here enjoying the beautiful sunrise. Sat in the spa last night to unloosen the old bones and loving the clear skies and stars galore. On your way down to the keys, stop and see us, we are about 50 miles north of Tampa a short ways west of I75. Todays puttering starts with leveling the deck, putting down the rug and setting up the awning, sunshade and all the lights the DW likes. All the while enjoying every second of it and the sunshine and 80* weather.
Oh, and yes the truck is doing great.
Frank

guardrail53 10-16-2014 10:32 PM

Frank, glad you made it to your spot, and got the old bones soaked. Enjoy the weather, it is nice over here in Thailand too, lows 68, highs 87, and the rainy season is behind us! Coffee tastes very good today!:thumb:

Franka548 10-19-2014 06:04 PM

Come on down bap, there is one cancellation for the winter, other than that the park will be full up. Weather has been beautiful, mid 80's during the day, upper 50's to low 60's during the night.

Good morning, Bigd9! great pic, I used to love to drive thru the rockies in the summer months, got caught a few times in the winter, not much fun! But it is one of my favorite drives, none the less! Rail!
By the way, the coffee tastes great today! Low 72, high 89, here in Lampang, Thailand!

Harley1994 10-20-2014 04:02 AM

Good Morning, Rail, I am envious of you there in Lampang, heck all that is in warmer climates :bow:maybe next year . 24 degs as I write, supposed to be 52 as a high, oh well.

guardrail53 10-20-2014 09:50 PM

Good morning Terry, I have delivered up to the Rome,N.Y. area/ Verona,, Slot's to the big casino there, and a top secret air show to the closed air force base for the Boeing Co. Stayed for 5 days, then hauled it back! It is very beautiful country up there! And I had time to go around and see the sites and wish I had a bike to ride and explore on! I should have rented one, but there were 5 of us, 5 different truckloads, so we rented a car! You are lucky to be able to do so with your DW at your side! It rained this morning here, nice to drink my coffee, and read the posts from everyone! Hope your axel's come in so you can get them welded in and hung, so you can move the TH close to the shop! High of 50? Great working weather! Low of 24, ohhhhhh,,:nonono: I would freeze!! I have the thin blood now, after being over here for 1 1/2 years! Rail!

Harley1994 10-21-2014 03:51 AM

Good Morning All, Rail,I delivered trucks and buses out of that closed air base, We ride all over that area, up by the thousand islands and thru the adirondacks. in the summer it truly is a nice place. I don't mind 50 degs if the sun shines and the wind don't blow. It always amazes me how easily we get used to warm weather, and cold just drives me crazy.

Funny. I just had all of the injectors done on my 03 Duramax as well. I'm still have a fuel pressure regulator issue though. It just doesn't have the power through the band it should have. It's really up and down. Pulls at one end of the rev band and not at the other, and then flips in the next gear. Weird.

Wbonsell 10-21-2014 11:38 AM

Good Moooorrrrnnnnnniiiiiiggggg, from the PNW. Coffee is indeed excellent this morning as I look out at our gray and rainy morning. Hey, it's October in Washington State. Heading to the mall this morning and getting ready to hit the road in a month. Wife is retiring November 14 and then its finish moving out of our condo and then hoping to hit the road right after Thanksgiving..

We are very excited but still working around all the details involved with heading out for a very long 7 month trip. Hoping to be in warm southern CA weather by the end of January....

Harley1994 10-21-2014 12:45 PM

Good luck on your new travels, sure sounds like fun.

It is a small world , till you fly to Thailand, then you realize how big it is! 24 hours is a long time in a tin can!:nonono: It rained here all most all day, but has stopped now! Made the coffee taste extra good this morning!!

guardrail53 10-25-2014 01:02 AM

It was a fun morning, for sure! On my first cup, I heard a yell from the back outside kitchen, back by the sink area? The maid was washing dishes, and the pipe broke off the faucet!! Water was spraying everywhere!! I ran out and shut off the main shut off, and got to work putting in a new faucet! Most of the houses here in Thailand have the cooking area outside, we have a kitchen in the main part of the house, but the cooking all gets done outside! It is open air, but has a cover and is screened! It is the same way at our other house too! Its all done now and looks good and works just fine! Hope you all have a nice day, and it quits raining! Or Snowing:whistling: Hehehehehe!!! Rail!

Good Morning All, As I set here in upstate ny 29 degs and three inches of snow . But the coffee is really good this morning, funny how a little snow makes the fire a little warmer and coffee a little sweeter.

guardrail53 11-02-2014 07:50 PM

Terry, stay warm, sure looks pretty:eek:! I would be freezing my tail off!! Frank, i hope the weather warmed back up in mid Florida:eek:! I have a couple of close friends that live down there and they have been keeping me posted on the weather, seems they are like me, when it gets to 50, they are looking for the long john's!! Coffee tastes very good this morning! And i guess Bap is at the beach, getting chased by frogs?:D! Anyone hear from Gordon and how his wife is doing? Everyone have a Nice day!:thumb: Rail!

Harley1994 11-03-2014 03:55 AM

Good Morning All, Rail, It is still cold this am (30degs) supposed to warm a bit the next couple days. Bap must be at the beach he has been quiet, its the beach bunnys, not the frogs I'd be looking out for. Hopefully Gordon's wife is doing okay, prayers out to her for sure. Have a good day all :thumb:

Harley1994 11-10-2014 10:26 AM

I know its not morning, so Good Afternoon all, just setting here eating lunch and I was thinking its been very quiet on the thread, Bap must still be on vacation, the weather man is talking about the polar vortec making most of the country cold and snowy six weeks before the season normaly starts, everyone thats in warmer climates good for you, wish I was there.

Bigd9 11-10-2014 11:09 AM

Good afternoon to you. Just came in from blowing out all of the water lines in the BigD2 getting ready for the " polar vortec". Even way down here we are expecting mid 20's on Thursday.

guardrail53 11-11-2014 05:47 AM

Well all, I hope you don't freeze to bad, I saw on the news about the polar vortex bearing down on the states! I know you do not want to hear how hot it is over here in Thailand, but, 90's in the daytime and down to 70 at night! I and the DW are in Bangkok for my radiation treatment to clean up what cancer they missed when they removed my prostate! We rented a apt. just a little ways from the hospital, as this will take 6 weeks to finish up! Had my first treatment yesterday, no I'll effects so far! I am getting the minimum dose and only for 10 to 15 min. a day, 5 days a week, so will wrap it up on Dec. 26! Sounds like the best Christmas present I could get, to have all this behind me! I am sure looking forward to out trip back to the states next spring, and was told today my MH is all ready and just waiting for me to get there! The dealer I bought it from is exercising it once a mo. for me, and will have it all checked out and ready when we get there! He gave me free storage with the deal, so I am very happy! It is in Phoenix, and I have a buddy there also, that is checking up on it from time to time! Terry, stay warm up there in upstate NY! Rail!

Harley1994 11-17-2014 05:52 AM

Good Morning All, as most of the states wake up to cold and snow, at least the coffee here is good and hot, and since I retired april 1st. I don't have to go anywhere .

Bigd9 11-17-2014 06:03 AM

Being retired feels really good doesn't it? Its funny though, even after 13 years of being retired, I still look forward to the weekends for some reason! Doesn't make sense I know.

Well, enjoy life, be safe and have fun.

Harley1994 11-17-2014 06:36 AM

Pete, I'm still trying to sort all this retired stuff out, I too look forward to the weekends, but then my DW is still working so that may have something to do with it.

Terry - it's one thing to say "Good Morning" it's another thing to rub in your freedom.:D 5 more years and counting for me. The coffee is hot however.

Harley1994 11-17-2014 09:50 AM

When I retired my copilot was still working. Like the great man I am, I would get her breakfast ready for her, clear the frost and ice off of her car, get it warmed up and turned around in the driveway so all she had to do is get in and drive off. My black lab and I would kiss her goodbye watch her drive off and then we would do the "Yes the house is all ours dance!" She caught us once when we started the dance before she had driven out of sight ....or maybe the neighbors squealed on us , but that was the end of the dancing out in the middle of the street!

Franka548 11-17-2014 11:41 AM

Terry,
I don't want to rub it in, but it was in the upper 60's this morning and I got to sit out under the awning and have my coffee. The storm and rain held off till after 1pm. Just so you don't feel too bad, it is supposed to be in the 30's the next 2 nights with a possibility of frost.
Frank

Badlands 11-17-2014 12:24 PM

Goooood Morning, and Aloha. I read the iRV2 notes and discussions over my seed and nut bagel with my herbal tea and enjoy all the comments. Sure have learned a lot and waiting for my Thor Outlaw to come in. Judy

Harley1994 11-17-2014 12:26 PM

OOOH Frank, I had some thoughts but they would edit them,. Just kidding . I am glad your down there where its warm, it is not nice here, but there are other places getting hit harder so I can't complain. Hopefully next year the TH will be done so we can at least stay part of the winter:thumb:. Pete, yep I do the car thing, least I can do. DW don't eat breakfast so that gets me out of that.

Gordon Dewald 11-17-2014 01:01 PM

Hi Guys;
Just caught up with this thread. Good morning all!

For all you fellows sweltering around freezing I would like to tell you that we hit -20 the other night. Fortunately it warmed up to 28 now so things seem really warm. LOL

Hey a quick question. Can you really freeze your ass off?

Harley1994 11-17-2014 03:20 PM

WOW, Judy it sounds like your in Hawaii, that would be nice. Gordon, BRRR  where are you that its that cold? Like I said I'll take what I got for weather. I think your about to find out if a posterior can fall off !!

Badlands 11-17-2014 10:58 PM

I am in sunny Cal, 45 miles from Yosemite National Park. I call it the Badlands. Lot's of scorpions. But today it has been foggy. Judy

guardrail53 11-18-2014 01:05 AM

Hi All, Coffee is tasting very good this morning! Sounds like the polar vortex is affecting everyone the same! Halfway around the world, not so much. The temps here are still the same, and the rains have gone away!:thumb: Everyone stay warm! Rail:cool:

P.S. What happened to Bap, the OP?

Harley1994 11-18-2014 04:26 AM

Good Morning All, Hey Judy the aloha threw me off! I lived in Sacramento for awhile, had alot of fun in the area. Rail, hope all is going well in your treatments. I don't know about Bap, he went an vacation, he posted when he came back that he was exhausted maybe he's still sleeping .

Gordon Dewald 11-18-2014 12:21 PM

We live in Alberta. Back waiting to find out the surgery schedule for Janets operation. All tests are done, diagnosis is in, treatment determined, - now shedule remains.

Harley1994 11-18-2014 01:29 PM

Good Morning/afternoon, Gordon, I had a feeling you were a northern neighbour with temps that cold. We will have Janet in our prayers, its better to have a decision then to be up in the air.

Franka548 11-18-2014 06:14 PM

Gordon, Wish Janet the best and our prayers are with you both.
Terry, that's not nice:angel: I hope that you can get down here and enjoy next winter. The flooring looks good. It sounds like you are progressing nicely.
Frank

Hopefully it stays that way for a few weeks, my wife is headed there (Pattaya to be exact). Cold here in Michigan, she'll enjoy the warmth.
