God Morning Gang,

Spritz, so sorry about your brother and the other man. Sometimes bad things happen even though no one is negligent. Hope your brother heals fast. They can do so many tings now days that even though they seem bad now, it can come out good. Healing takes time.

Curtis, I agree. Proper dress at a funeral shows respect and I dislike seeing people come in shorts and tank tops cause it's hot. Your good clothes can be washed or cleaned, suffer for a few for a friend and family member.

During Viet Nam people were aware (all ages of people) that there was a war going on. The concern for our military was huge along with people who wanted the war stopped. There are so many people now who don't care or are even aware what is going on now. Military casualties were posted in the papers daily. Now, even with the internet and social media there is little awareness of these numbers. We post the loss of a Tiger but not the 23 suicides of vets on a daily bases. I guess if it doesn't effect you personally or interfere with your FB time, you aren't interested.

I would like to go back to a more gentle time. People now days will have no idea of that kind of life or it's simplicity.

W--k was particularily bad this week (other than Wed). I keep looking at numbers and the 23 more months I plan to w--k and rethink this over and over again. I am going to try to get out June next year if I can put away enough money between now and then to pay for insurance. I just don't want to do this anymore. Short staffing, increased expectations, less respect and courtesy by mgmt. and it is time for me to go. My body feels abused due to the workload most days. I never thought I would feel this away about my job but I am so unbelieveably eager to get out. I have to find a way.

Hope you all have a good day, Take care of yourself and your mates. Lynne

Curtis,
Sorry to hear about the lack of respect for your friend. I think Bap said it all.
Lloyd,
We didn't see it all, but enough, we can always come back again and still do more that we didn't see.

Curtis in TX 08-15-2015 08:45 AM

I must have been raised different than these guys. My Mother worked for our local Funeral Home, so I guess I got a heavy dose of Funeral Etiquette in my upbringing.
Fighting a sinus headache this morning or I'd be riding one of my motorcycle to breakfast. I've got some errands to do in town so I will eventually get out and ride.

Our weather has broken finally. We're now officially under 100 degrees forecast for the day. Predicted on only be 98-99 all weekend. Chance of rain Thursday!
We got two minutes of rain yesterday. It was cloudy all day so we never topped 98. YEA!

Lynne, Thursday I was talking to one of the guys from work who was still slaving away. And he was telling me all the changes they have gone through since I retired. WOW! I'm glad I'm gone. He is 62 and they still expected him to work as hard and as many hours overtime as he did when he was 25 years old. Still climbing poles in the heat like he did when he started. They are not allowed any cool down time in the heat and are expected to be busy all day, even if there is nothing to do.
They have to go work for other Departments during free time. But of course, the other Departments personnel are not required to come out into the heat to work when they are slow. Too Dangerous to have them working with electricity.

Greetings all!

At work today, very busy day. Going to be a long one.

Beamis,,,, 21 more months for me. I also am struggling with making it that long. So odd. Worked fulltime starting 1970, 45 years and now 21 months sounds hard!

I think you are correct, the entire funeral conversation, respect, etc all carries over into work. This is not fun anymore, and if not for a few of my key employees who have been with me for years, who are on my same page,,,,, I'd go greet at Walmart!

Well just checking in, back to work!

we think its tough now,,,but i will tell ya a story my father in law told me way back in the day---he worked in one of the top automotive assembly plants,---a guy had a heart attack and died holding his time card to punch out his foreman took the card and checked him out so it would be like he didnt die on the clock,,,,,,,and there are many stories of men diying on the line and they just pull them off and throw another person on it,,,,,,the line never stops,,....i know i worked the same way for years .....no matter what the line does not stop....----i am sooo happy to be out...now ive gone from a 12-16hr work day to 20....lol...

Bap,

I agree, there was a time that people didn't matter. The medical field has changed so much and knowing how it was it is hard to take now.

I have a question. One of the lights above the front windows (orange running lights) is out. I cannot figure out how to get the lens cover off. Can you tell me is there a trick to this?

Lloyd, I have roughly 22 months to go. It will be sooner if I can figure out a way to do it. Seems awfully hard to me too.

Got the passenger side deoxidized and three coats of wax. So rear end done, passenger side done, and front and driver's side first coat of deoxidizing done. It's getting there.

The lens cover should snap off. You can use a flat screw driver or coin. There will be a slot, usually on one of the ends. Stay safe all.

Ron beat me to it, but I agree with him, just look for the slot, take a flat screwdriver, stick it in and turn! When off check for moisture, if any spray with WD-40, after you take the bulb out,! Turn the bulb, pull it out, clean the lead end with a piece of sand paper, or emery cloth, put the new bulb in, test, pop the lens back on!
About the work, I retired 1 1/2 years early, and never looked back! I had enough money saved to carry me thru till the money started to come in! If you can retire early, do so, as you will never get the time back! So many people wait to retire to get that little bit more money, and never live long enough to make up the difference! So, Lynne and Lloyd, if you can work it so you can retire early, do so! You will be very happy you did!
I agree, Curtis, about the way people show up to funerals now days, and even years back! I had a very good friend die, a veteran, a fellow O/O, and I was shocked at the attire of some of the people's dress at the funeral! I did not have a suit, but I did dress nice, nice shirt, sweater, and slack pants! It all comes down to respect, and how you were raised, I think!
Bap, the 63, looks great!! You and Debbie should be proud!!
Lynne, keep going at the MH, and soon you will be all done, getting the oxidation off, and it will be so much easy'er to keep shinny!! And also,, remember,, we like Pic's!! Hehehehe!!
Oh, yeah,, the coffee was very good today!! Rail!

beamisl 08-16-2015 04:07 AM

Good Morning Gang,

Rail, I agree, I want to quit as soon as I can but the reason I am still working is insurance. Financially we are fine, but buying insurance for two people is over $1,000 a month and I need to consider that. Next year Jerry can go on MEDICARE and SS and then I only have to buy for myself. It will still be around $700 but more manageable for me. I can make that working part time somewhere at something with a lot less stress and we plan on me taking 1/2 of Jerry's SS and let my SS grow a few years yet. Actually, McDonald's is looking good.

Coffee sure is fine this AM. It's 0602 right now and still dark. Will go try to finish the MH today before it gets real hot. Supposed to be 90 today. I know Curtis would not think that is hot but here in MI it is about 10 to 15 degrees hotter than normal and being outside doing a very physical job it's too much when it is that hot. At least for me it is.

You all have a great day and pics will come when I get her all done. Did a bit of decal removal while I was at it. Anything that was loose was removed. The rest is fine. That old wall paper scraper did a fine job.

Morning all!

Well, my work day started at 7:15am, and ended at 11pm yesterday, then I had the 1 hour drive home. A bunch of people worked a like day. Our senior leader showed up around 3pm, stayed to the end, and reamed a few a new one cause something didn't go as planned. Overall our work was very successful, but we had a few hick-ups that delayed us completing by 2 hours. I rest my case on the work, no respect, no appreciation.

Beamisl, I have the same problem. Debbie is younger than me. I had a brain injury a few years ago, she has a bad knee, medical is the challenge. I could retire, but it is more like $2,000 to $2,500 a month for our coverage. That would be a huge chunk of our savings. We could do it, but I worry about it. Thought about retiring and finding a $25k or $30k a year job to pay all that, but if I'm going to work I might as well do this and make a awful lot more. So here I am.

Like you, trying to save some, and maybe cut the 21 months to 18, or 16 or something.

You all have a great day. I'm going to spend the day on the coach. We have a vacation planned in a few weeks, and I want to make sure this coach don't let us down. I have a few more items to address (fuel filters and airdryer) and a few small projects/improvements I want to do to make it home.

Curtis
About those that show up at a funeral without at least an effort to be well dressed :nonono:,,,,,,,,,,,,show up at theirs wearing some gym shorts and a tie dye T.

Franka548 08-16-2015 06:15 AM

Lloyd and Lynne,
I feel for you guys about waiting to retire, I had to wait a year and a half longer till I could dump my business, and I haven't looked back. The biggest problem today is the head of these companies haven't worked in the trenches, they go to MBA school and have no clue what the actual jobs are.
Lynne,
To add to what Rail said, before you put the bulb back in, put a dab of dielectric grease on the brass end of the bulb before you put it back in, it helps prevent corrosion. You can get it at most auto parts stores.

Well getting ready to leave Ferry Boat campgrounds to go to Milton, Pa. Went on a nice ferryboat ride across the Susquehanna river to Millersburg, had lunch at a nice restaurant, then ferry ride back to the campgrounds, made a very nice afternoon.
