Finally found our motorhome
Been searching this forum for couple years learning what I could about various types of RV's finally deciding on a class A. After much research and considering our budget, Newmar Dutch Star made the final cut. Just bought a 2000 Newmar Dutch Star 3859 from the original owner. Log book with all maintenance done on the coach since new. Oil, fuel, air filters all changed every 5,000 miles. Tires replaced in December 2014. Always kept inside and it looks new inside and out. Question, what are the things I need to consider replacing seeing as the coach is 14 years old? I am considering taking the coach to a diesel mechanic to go through it with a find tooth comb and list everything that needs to be done. Drove the coach from San Antonio, Texas to Tulsa, Oklahoma and it ran beautifully. Got 9.1 miles to the gallon. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Glad to learn you were referring to finding your correct MH to purchase! Some of these old rvers on this site have been known to loose there MH in an RV park! Welcome aboard!

I sounds like you found a gem. I don't think you need to do anything except check the tires and fluids on a regular basis, and follow manufacturers maintenance recommendations for engine, chassis, transmission and generator. Oh, and check and repair the caulking around all openings and on the roof.

Corn gratch ulations .... You picked a good one for sure.... Be carful giving a mechanic free reign, if he will also be doing the "needed" repairs. However if he is your brother in law, no worry :0

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on finding a great rig. Sounds like it was well taken care which should make things easier for you......Most important thing is finding a good mechanic and following a maintenance schedule. check out RV Service Reviews . Its a site which list service centres which have been reviewed by RVers. Some good, some not so good. Gives you an idea maybe of what's available in your area. Good luck

Thanks for the response and the warm welcome. Appreciate the advice about mechanic inspection. Wife and I look forward to meeting some of you in the days ahead. Planning now to retire the fall of 2016 but will be making long trips in the motorhome prior to that date. Once again thanks.

I think you'll like the DSDP. Our first one was a 2000 3865, now have a 2002 4090 and looking to go to a 4372 or 4375 depending on who "wins" the floorplan "fight"!
