Remco Recommended Towable Vehicles

I find it pretty funny that the top 12 vehicles Remco recommends all require a lube pump, and naturally they recommend a Remco lube pump. There's not a single Jeep listed; and the CR-V isn't there either. Jeeps and the CR-V represent the majority of toads. Remco just lost all credibility with me.

I think REMCO specializes in transmission pumps.

If you don't want to mess around with lots of add-ons, select your toad based on the FMCA Towing Guides.

Most manual shift vehicles need no mods. Just install base plate and wiring. Plus your choice of braking. Put it in neutral and unlock steering with a key that won't start it. (To prevent theft).

New Jeeps must have either a manual transmission or the Active-Drive II automatic.

Remco sold off their transmission pump division some years ago. Maybe they bought it back though?

Remco sells lube pumps and use to sell driveshaft disconnects. I believe their top choices relate to vehicles that need pumps. It would be bad business to recommend things that didn't use their product.

You're right Don.

There are two Remco brands now, one selling transmission lube pumps and one selling drive shaft disconnects. Separate companies.

elexwiz: You are lambasting Remco without doing your homework. If you punch in a vehicle like say a 2011 CRV. Remco tells you no lube pump is required. The list you referred to is just their best sellers. They could have used a different name for that list . Remco has always been helpful. The original Remco went out of business a number of years ago. I think they just wanted to retire. The lube pump was sold to some pump company but that did not last long. I don't know who owns the lube or the driveshaft division. Both are very good products. I had a DS disconnect installed at their Omaha plant and they did a great job. The problem with either of the products is that many of the installers are second rate. RV dealers are not the ideal choice for complex installations. I do know that the DS disconnect is often installed at driveline shops. There is one in Yuma ( something like Southwest Driveline) that are real experts.

In days of old they had 3 products

LP-1 Lube pump

Axle lock
Drive Shaft Disconnect.

I'm told they sold off part of the line .. So you are likely right

Axle locks do not work on all front wheel drive (Well they do but on say a 2001 Dodge NEON it can be next to impossible to operate) I used one on my 1992 Lumina and it worked well.

And of course Drive Shaft Disconnects do not work at all on a Front Wheel Drive.
