Diesel price vs Gasoline price is very close

I am seeing diesel fuel prices around $2.79 and 87 octane gasoline at $2.69. That makes the other grades of gasoline more than diesel now.

What's up with that?

What's that per liter in Canadian dollars?

Very predictable since the recent difference in price was not due to the cost of diesel fuel being high but rather the price of gasoline being artificially low due to a glut on the market. Gasoline is used primarily by private vehicles and is more subject to price variation due to the consumer economy, seasons, backlog, etc. Diesel is used primarily by commercial concerns (trucking, airlines) and the military and demand is more consistent and thus less subject to variation. As refineries react and gasoline supplies become more in balance with demand equalization of price was never more than a matter of time.

Diesel is cheaper than unleaded regular where I get it... and has been for a while.

Just got back from a 3 month trip across the U.S. Most prices for diesel were around $2.65 gallon. Until I get into CA then they jump to like $3.85 or more. Crazy...

I just filled yeterday, and while I can't remember the exact price, I was pleased to see that diesel was about $0.40 cheaper than regular gas.

Gas in Kamloops is 1.17/litre.
That is equal to approx. $4.58/US gal

Diesel is 1.19/litre
Equal to $4.80/US gal.

Looking forward to heading south even with the rate exchange

Our fuel is at the same price as it was when prices were in the $80 per barrel of oil. It's still over priced and not coming down. Our prices are based on the NY prices. Imagine NY has some of the highest in the east cost. That is for NB Canada.
Today diesel was lower by $.01 .

I don't think your calculations are correct:confused:

US gallon has 3.78 litres so $1.17 X 3.78 = $4.42 / USG in CDN funds

$1 Cdn = $0.80 US so $4.42 = $3.53/US gal in US funds.

Maybe I missed something?

I'm in northern Lake County, Illinois. I've never seen that much difference before, here either.

I remember when diesel was always much less than gas, and it should be.
