Tilt Wheel/Single Wheel Trailer Towing?

In California is towing a single wheel trailer (Fast Master Products) considered towing triple? Does it require a class A license?

From what others have said, yes. Mostly it would probably depend on your local LEO. But do you want to have that discussion on the side of the road?

Is it very difficult/expensive to obtain that additional licensing?

Got the official answer today at my local CHP office. My swivelwheel extension is going to have 2 pivots at the back of the 5r frame. Pivot bolts are 3/4 inch. NO COUPLERS, and has a single wheel. Needs DOT lights because it is considered load that extends over 48 inches past original tail lights and no registration. It is now part of the 5r. As long as it stays within the gvw of the trailer I do not need a class A license.

So you are permanently attaching it to the back of the trailer (mine, I can disconnect)?

That way its not a separate trailer, just an extension of your trailer?

Yours, does not have coupler balls either, but the swivel because you are dual wheel may be a problem calling it an attachment. I chose to not use the receivers for connection. I drew a blueprint of my platform and connections. Took it to the CHP office and actually got a signature and ID of the officer on the plans. These when attached with bolts are no different than the extra wheels on transit mix concrete trucks.

Sounds interesting. Would like to see the product when you are finished.

Good luck. :)

I think you're still limited to 48' max for the fiver plus the extension.

Fastmaster is going to sell me the cast wheel assy. I have so many modifications of their S46, it will be easier for me to build my self. My quad is only 475lbs. Will submit photo when done.

5r is sl27 ( see signature). Would not attempt this on any thing over 30ft.
