Another newbie thread
I was pleased to find this site, and I decided to join.

There is so much I don't know about RV life, and I hope I will find some answers here. I am 60 year "young" retired military officer, very mechanical, and I work on all vehicles we own (several SUV's, S class Benz, three motorcycles, quad, and a ranch/work truck). We owned 34' Fleetwood Bounder for few months, and did two long trips in it (total of 3000 miles), when we decided we need something bigger (after I spent two months completely remodeling it.......oh well!). So we purchased 1995 Prima Vista last Sunday in Albuquerque NM, and drove it back home to CA (800 miles). We are "vintage" kind of people, and we wanted a coach that doesn't look like every other MH on the road, I guess we are suckers for vintage quality, and looks.

I will pop on the vintage forum, and fire off some questions.

I'm curious if you had any problems registering it in California?

I bought a new 2004 car in Arizona and the DMV said if it didn't have a California emissions smog label on it I would have to get it out of the state in 24 hours. It turns out it had the label.

Have you had it smogged yet?

Welcome to the forum. There sure is a lot of info and helpful people here.

When you go to "Vintage" forum, look for a thread called "Total Rebuild" Terry has done some amazing work and the guys there have been a wealth of knowledge and suggestions. Sounds like you will fit right I'm with them.

Let it not be left unsaid: Thank you for your service to our Country and my Freedom. I know the cost is not free.

Best of luck with the new rig and have fun camping with the family. Lynne

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Just curious......."MSHappy".....what prompted you to say "keep her between the ditches"? Are you clairvoyant? :)

After driving all night (left Albuquerque at 7PM, arrived home at 5AM), I didn't want to drive her to her parking space, and I left her on the main ranch road. Ranch has two parallel roads, that are connected with a bridge in my back yard. The bridge is 14' wide, and about 20' long, and spans the drainage ditch that collects the watershed off the mountains, and leads down into the city.

After sleeping for 2 hours, I decided to drive her over the bridge (maneuver Bounder made MANY times), and park her where she belongs. Well......bridge wall collapsed, and Vogue's port side rear wheels were hanging over the bridge! In the ditch! Luckily she didn't tip over (front wheels were well over the bridge at that point, but she was leaning DANGEROUSLY). It took a pro (semi recovery equipment) to get her out. Luckily there is no damage, and nobody got hurt while we tried to get her out ourselves (me and two ranch hands) for two days (Sunday and Monday). Tuesday morning she was safely over the bridge, and is now being completely detailed, after which she will go into her own barn.

Answer for "Arch".......I used to own two car dealerships (mid 90s), and I know how to play the game. She is registered in NM (in my name), and she will soon be moved to our property in ID, where she will remain for the rest of my life. We are pretty fed up with CA, and will be in ID permanently very soon. I think I will keep her registered in NM though (cheap, and very quick/simple process......unlike CA).
