Welcome to the forum.
https://www.google.com/search?q=elec...earch=irv2.com Here is a start. Be extremely careful. These things can retract and go out when not expected. |
I installed a toggle switch until I was able to replace my controller. All I did was unplug the 2 wire plug on the step motor and wire the motor to a 3 way switch. When I replaced the controller, all I had to do was plug it in and get rid of the switch. Maybe yours is similar.

Yea that's exactly what's there a 3 way switch Well at lease now I know where to start is the controller usually under the steps as well |
Yes, my controller is mounted under the steps. There is a square electrical plug (maybe 4 pins?) going to it from the rv. There is also a 2 pin plug going from the controller to the motor
|
Ok I'll look in a bit trying to figure out which wires do what

The search is a Google search. There is a little square at the top of the page on the right. Put your search words in there and a page like the one shown will pop up. Notice it references IRV2 in the links. Click on the links.

I would bet that the controller is cooked, why else would someone install the switch to run the steps. I would get a jumper and jump to the positive of the controller and see if it works before you disconnect and have the correct parts to fix it. Might hold on to you wallet tight as well. I have have done the same thing on a couple of my previous units. Put the switch were I could reach it with my foot. The switch should be a momentary switch so you can't accidentally leave it on. All the switch does is reverse the polarity.

You just might be right I got to look into it I just don't know but like you said why else by pass it |
Is the switch a 3 position switch? The magnet switch on the door is what triggers the steps (there is also a lockout function). Could the switch just be simulating the mag switch?

It's a 3 pole momentary switch in either direction that's all I know at this point I got to check the door switch is that all the door switch controls? Is steps |
Post a picture of the steps. Once they are identified there are many previous post that address this. Hundreds of posts.
Mine was easy enough to remove from the rv. Using a spare battery or jumper cables makes it much safer to repair. |
